Esther Massry Gallery

Esther Massry Gallery Open New Hours: Gallery closed Sunday, academic holidays, between exhibits. Closed for August and reopens September 4-8.

The College art gallery was established in 1970. In 1978, it was relocated downtown to Picotte Hall, the Center for Art and Design, 324 State Street, in historic Center Square where it remained for 30 years. The gallery moved back to campus in the Fall 2008, and is housed in the Massry Center for the Arts. The Esther Massry Gallery is a spacious, 2,200 sq. ft. space with an open floor plan and state of the art lighting. Its unique “Vertical Gallery” features large windows facing north and a 27 ft. high ceiling with the capacity to suspend 3,000 lbs. The new location offers prime visibility on Madison Avenue which connects the Pine Hills neighborhood with Albany’s Historic Center Square. The Esther Massry Gallery provides curriculum support for the art department and invites participation by the greater College community. The gallery is a learning laboratory that serves as a window into the College as an important cultural resource for New York's Capital Region. It is a member of the American Association of Museums, the Exhibit Alliance and Museum Association of New York. Each academic year, recognized visiting artists at various career levels present exhibitions, lectures, panel discussions, meet with students and provide individual critiques. Gallery receptions provide opportunities for discourse between artists, faculty, students and members of the community. Gallery Management classes present opportunities for involved students to earn credit and learn, and go on to internships and employment in the field. Work Study staff positions allow students to hold employment in the gallery. Graphic Design students work collaboratively with the director to produce professional publicity materials and signage for exhibitions and events.

Friday night was an extraordinary evening celebrating our 2019 senior art students. Hundreds of family, friends, alumni and well-wishers attended the reception. I really enjoyed meeting parents and sharing stories about our students and their achievements. Please be sure to visit the gallery and see the exhibition through April 27th. A special thank you goes out to Scott Brodie, Nick Lack, my gallery management and work study students and senior class for making my night especially memorable! Thank you Rob O'Neil for these great photos!

I am happy to announce the launch of my book, Esther Massry Gallery Recollected, The First Ten Years, 2008–2018. This has been in progress for four years and would not have been possible without the design talents of our own Saint Rose graduates Eden Loeffel '15 and Farrah Mills '18, Graphic Design Professor Ann Breaznell, and the Office of Institutional Advancement. It will be available for sale tomorrow evening, April 5 at the Senior Show reception from 5–7 p.m. Then it will be available for sale at the Saint Rose Campus Store.

Announcing the new book, Esther Massry Gallery Recollected, The First Ten Years, 2008–2018. The book will be available to view or purchase at the Senior Show.

La instalación, realizada para el espacio Moneo Brock, es un despliegue de todos los planos de una casa, las habitaciones, esquinas, techos, suelos, que el artista desdibuja en un único plano para reproducir una casa inspirada en las conversaciones con los arquitectos.
