Our aim is to establish a physical location offering exhibits and programming designed to educate and entertain visitors with a behind the scenes look at how movies are made. The filmmaking process will be presented through a historical timeline, a range of genres, and through a study of the various departments. From script to screen, visitors will move through the creative and technical aspects of the production process. Displays will include set design and construction, prop-making, costume design, make-up, sound equipment, special effects techniques, camera movement, lighting, and post-production. The museum will showcase the skills, materials, equipment, and artistry that are fundamental to the collaborative effort of filmmaking. The museum will offer access to motion picture related artifacts, artwork, and interactive experiences designed to increase understanding of the history and the future of film and it’s potential as media to have a substantive impact on individuals and communities. Screenings of significant films, along with educational and interpretive programs will be offered to students, teachers, and filmmakers. The museum will facilitate workshops, forums, partnerships with film societies and festivals, and welcome private screenings and events for all who are interested in stimulating their imagination and expanding their perceptions. The Southwest Film Museum will strive to further social, environmental, educational and cultural objectives through the dialogue of film.
