「戲未散,人已入戲|The curtain never falls; the audience has already become part of the act. 」
有節慶的喧鬧,也有落雪的寂靜;
而是反覆返回的場域;

“The curtain never falls; the audience has already become part of the act.”
In Wang Zhaoju’s paintings, the stage is never merely a venue for performance,
but a space that carries memory and emotion.
From Old Opera to Show Time,
there is the clamor of festivity alongside the stillness of falling snow;
the presence of a father intertwined with the movement of the crowd.
Figures enter and depart within these scenes as time folds upon itself;
everyday life and ritual permeate one another,
their boundaries gradually dissolve.
These works are not depictions of singular events,
but a continual interplay of “watching” and “being watched.”
People gaze upon the world through the opera,
while the world, in turn, gazes back at the crowd.
Thus, the stage becomes a vessel,
carrying local memory, familial bonds, and collective emotion,
constantly generating new meanings through each performance.
Within these paintings, time is not linear,
but a space of perpetual return;
the figures are not merely characters,
but the lingering shapes left behind by memory.
