Happy to announce that the 3rd, revised edition of the Illustrated Family Map of Kamnik and its Surroundings has been published. 🗺️ 😃 The map, which was co-financed by the Municipality of Kamnik, is available for free in Slovene and in English at the Kamnik Tourist Information Centre and at many other locations around the town.

The renowned Slovenian illustrator Ivan Mitrevski did the illustrations (again) and I did the writing (again). Well, more or less. 😜 Design by Katarina Goltez / horse art and Ivan Mitrevski. English translation by Josh Rocchio.

The Illustrated Family Map of Kamnik provides you with a number of great tips for discovering the charming medieval town of Kamnik in a fun and creative way. It offers an overview of the must-see attractions in the area, accompanied with numerous humorous inserts which give the map a special charm. Its essence is an illustration accompanied by shorter texts. Our aim was to design a map that would be informative and instructive, but also practical, likable and »digestible«. And yes, its is an old-school, paper bag version of a map. 😍

About a year ago 𝐈𝐯𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐬𝐤𝐢 asked me if he could join me at one of the guided tours in Kamnik. “No problem,” I said.

Not till a few months later he told me about this great idea he had and we started working together on a project to create an illustrated map of Kamnik and its surroundings (yes, you guessed it, Ivan happens to be an illustrator 😉).

So we got down to work. Ivan did the illustrations and I did the writing. Well, more or less...

In December 2019 the first edition of the 𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐊𝐚𝐦𝐧𝐢𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 came out (founded by the Municipality of Kamnik) and a few weeks ago, just after the corona virus seemed to be under control here, in Slovenia, the revised, second edition saw light and it is there for you to take (𝐲𝐞𝐬, 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞! ) and explore the town and its surroundings with it. 😃 Available in Slovene and really soon also in English.

Yes, it is THAT time of year. 💜

And I know I am really lucky I get to live with such beauties so close to my home. 😇 I try to remember that as often as I can in these weird, quarantine times. 🙏

It is super intense during the week, with two kids at home and working from home at the same time (I am an online Spanish teacher in case you didn't know), so, when weekends start, I try to disconnect and just stop. I guess that's what this is all about. We need to stop.🐌 😊

Anyway, hope you are fine and safe wherever you are 💚 and I really do hope you'll get to enjoy the beauties of Kamnik area soon too.👍

"Please have in mind we are not fit at all. Well, at least the majority of us," were one of the first words I heard from my guests from TIC Murska Sobota just a few moments after we met in Kamnik the other day.

Well, let me tell you - they did great! 💪🦵👍😀 We hiked up to the herdsmen village on Velika planina plateau from Ušivec and they were so busy enjoying the amazing views of Kamnik-Savinja Alps ⛰(and telling jokes) they forgot all about them (supposedly) not being fit. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

I had fun with you, guys! 💚 I promise to stop by at TIC Murska Sobota in Hranilnica prekmurskih dobrot when I'm around.

Velika planina pasture plateau just a day or two before the pasture season. It just can't get and greener that it is these days. Love it! 😍
