Hermits and orchids share many things in common. Both dwell quietly within the mountains and valleys, blooming in silence without seeking attention. Even unseen, it continues to release its fragrance and become a symbol of inner virtue beyond fame or wealth. Because of this, orchid incense (蘭香) has always held an important place in traditional incense making.

The HERMIT ORCHID incense and perfume we are releasing this month represents my new exploration of the orchid theme. For this batch of incense, I redesigned the entire structure. Once burned, it may remind you of the rich and profound pure agarwood incense we released before, then you will find the orchids blooming beautifully within the agarwood valley. For me, this work represents a new exploration in my incense making journey, a work that moves beyond the distinction between pure agarwood incense and classical blended fragrance.

The perfume was inspired by my many journeys through the Wuyi Mountains, a place long associated with hermits and spiritual cultivators seeking enlightenment among its hidden valleys and cliffs. Here, orchid accords meet the soul of authentic Wuyi Cliff Tea oil, capturing a sense of quiet cultivation and inner stillness. It is a fragrance that invites one to slow down and wander beyond the noise of the world, following the faint scent of orchids hidden deep among the mountain cliffs.

I’m very happy to have completed another article to share with you. Becoming a hermit has long been one of my deepest dreams. In many ways, making incense and crafting perfumes have always been a form of spiritual cultivation for me.

We are delighted to unveil our second perfume crafted with authentic Wuyi Cliff Tea oil. The inspiration was born from my journeys through the mystical Wuyi mountains. Since ancient times, it has been a sacred sanctuary where hermits and spiritual cultivators sought enlightenment among its dramatic cliffs and hidden valleys.

Inspired by their quiet wisdom and timeless spirit, this fragrance is an invitation to slow down, reconnect with the natural world, and discover a moment of inner stillness. Delicate orchid notes intertwine with the soulful depth of Wuyi Cliff Tea, creating a scent that feels both ethereal and grounding, like a breath carried through the mountains across centuries.

Recently, an old friend from US sent me a message, sharing that my incense has been helping him a lot during his health challenges. To be honest, his words deeply moved me. Over the past decade of crafting incense, I've constantly asked myself: what is the true meaning of incense making? Perhaps, for me, it is to be like this rising smoke, quietly offering gentle yet powerful support when people need it.

Beyond this, I have never stopped exploring and refining my craft. This month, I will also be introducing a new incense created with an entirely new approach. I hope it will bring you a pleasant surprise.

From this month, we will gradually share our new agarwood teas. In 2025, we embarked on a series of exciting explorations, expanding beyond cliff tea to other varieties, including the agarwood Pu-erh tea we are presenting this month. No matter which tea we craft, the most essential element is, of course, the agarwood itself.

All of our agarwood teas are made using core materials left over from making beads, primarily sourced from Brunei and TARAKAN. Beyond the final tea product, these agarwood materials themselves are exceptionally worth sharing. These original pieces typically require hundreds of years of natural accumulation and have been stored for generations in Japan. Due to the demand for high-grade agarwood bracelets in recent years, these materials are becoming increasingly difficult to find even in Japan now.

Unlike our previous cliff teas, this agarwood Pu-erh tea offers an entirely new experience. This Shou Pu-erh itself is exceptionally mellow and rich in layers, with consistent flavor across multiple infusions and a long-lasting aftertaste. Through charcoal roasting, the agarwood's Qi had completely integrated into the tea, developing a strong, powerful presence. From the first sip, every cell in our bodies felt as if immersed in a sacred spring, where dormant cells within the body began to awaken, and we could clearly perceive every part of the body filling with the vitality of life.

Additionally, we have prepared two types of incense for this month, Imperial Quartet (四和香) and Cinnabar (除秽). We hope you will enjoy them too.

Start with quality, end with quality. Without the finest raw materials, it's impossible to craft truly exceptional agarwood tea. After the last roasting session, I set aside some TARAKAN wood to share with everyone this coming weekend. This is my favorite origin, even at room temperature, it continuously releases an irresistibly captivating aroma.
