Our ReadAble kids have been drawing the “dream worlds” they want to see when they open their doors: full of safety, connection, and joy!

At ReadAble, we’re opening doors to bring life a little closer to their dreams: by teaching, partnering families, and building confidence in every child we meet. We invite you to open these doors with us. 📚📖

Most of us can’t remember our P4 or P5 grades.
But we DO remember:

Grades matter – but they aren’t the whole story. Every child deserves to feel safe enough to try again.

At ReadAble, we believe that protecting children must be a shared national priority.

The independent review into 4-year-old Megan Khung’s death has revealed serious systemic lapses. It confirms what many working with children have long felt: our child protection system needs stronger safeguards, clearer accountability, and faster action when harm is suspected.

We stand with frontline workers, agencies, and community partners committed to learning from failure and strengthening the system together.

We recognise that the national conversation around this review is ongoing and we believe progress will require partnership – government, social sector organisations, and communities working together to keep children safe.

To celebrate the end of Term 2, our children and volunteers had a pastatively pennetastic time crafting their own pasta pins! We came up with words and phrases to personalise our pins: a creative challenge that worked our fine motor skills and gave us a healthy dose of sensory play. Also, practising teamwork to hunt for some elusive letters ;)

This was a specially organised activity designed to wrap up the term. At ReadAble, we occasionally run curated enrichment sessions like this one — thoughtfully planned to support our learners in meaningful ways.

Thank you and our volunteers for making this workshop so fun. We’re looking forward to Term 3!

P.S. The alphabet pasta is expired, lovingly rescued and sorted.

We continue to advocate for an independent panel to investigate the tragic death of Megan Khung. In this Forum letter, ReadAble board member Cindy Tay details why an independent child fatality review panel is both important and necessary.

“Establishing such a panel would send a powerful signal of Singapore’s political and social commitment to child welfare and child rights. It would show that our society values every child’s life and is determined to learn and improve – fairly, consistently, and with integrity.”

*Happy World Book Day!*

Fun fact, we get to celebrate Book Day not once but TWICE; today (as it is in the UK) and again with the rest of the world on 23 April!

We love any chance to fuel children’s imaginations and excitement for reading - we’ll be heading to to see The Lost Lending Library by Punchdrunk Enrichment this weekend!

A huge thank you to MSL for leading an amazing session on the Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach! 🌟 This training was a game-changer for the ReadAble team, giving us the tools to teach more effectively while deepening our understanding of how languages are learned.

Some of our key takeaways:

- Auditory Processing Skills: We learned how essential it is to strengthen listening skills, especially when it comes to following instructions. It’s all about helping learners tune into the details.
- Multisensory Learning: Teaching through touch, movement, sight, and sound makes lessons stick - and keeps kids engaged!
- Age-Appropriate Learning: Tailoring lessons to match the developmental stage of each learner ensures they’re always challenged, but never overwhelmed.

_As this approach was developed for dyslexic learners, it helped us to dive into the core principles of literacy - the very building blocks of communication- to strengthen our skills as educators._

Whether we’re working with neurotypical or neurodivergent kids, we’re now even more excited to make learning fun with rhyming, alliteration, blending, segmenting… and making up silly words! 😄📚
