Our Story // A Nossa História

EN Freedom House - Mário Cesariny is an artistic space and multipurpose museum that pays homage to the poet and surrealist painter Mario Cesariny de Vasconcelos. It is located in the historic center of Lisbon, Alfama and in conjunction with the Perve Gallery, adjacent to it, hosts an artistic legacy bequeathed by the artist it is named after, including a collection that started growing in the 1990s consisting of different thematic groups dedicated to different artistic fields: Portuguese Surrealism; Portuguese Vanguards and Neo-vanguards of the 20th Century; International References; Modern and Contemporary African Art of Portuguese Speaking Countries; Latin America; Art of Man - African Primitivism; Portuguese Emerging Art; International Emerging Art. It is a multifaceted space that is based on the unifying concept of freedom, by Mário Cesariny, who joined this project since it’s beginning in 2005. Alongside works that can be defined as ‘orthodox’ Surrealism, in this space there is artwork focused on a range of approaches to exploring freedom, be it formal, narrative, epistemological, ideological, conceptual, political, or religious, by a range of artists. In addition to this collection of works, there are three important archives, one dedicated to art books, another to Artists' books and one dedicated to interactive artistic multimedia, all of them with thousands of entries.

PT A Casa da Liberdade - Mário Cesariny é um espaço artístico, polivalente, com características museológicas, que presta homenagem ao poeta e pintor surrealista Mário Cesariny de Vasconcelos. Localiza-se em Alfama e em articulação com a Perve Galeria, que lhe é contígua, acolhe um espólio artístico e documental legado pelo artista que lhe dá nome e uma coleção que começou a ser reunida nos anos 90, constitúida por diferentes núcleos temáticos, dedicados a áreas artísticas distintas: Surrealismo em Português; Vanguardas e Neo-vanguardas Portuguesas do Século XX; Referências Internacionais; Arte Moderna e contemporânea Africana de Países de Expressão Portuguesa; América Latina; Arte do Homem – Primitivismos Africanos; Arte Emergente Portuguesa; Arte Emergente Internacional. É um espaço multifacetado que tem por base o conceito aglutinador de liberdade de Mário Cesariny, que se associou ao projecto desde o seu início, em 2005. Ao lado de obras que podem ser definidas como surrealismo 'ortodoxo', neste espaço há obras de arte focadas numa série de abordagens que exploram a liberdade, seja ela formal, narrativa, epistemológica, ideológica, conceitual, política ou religiosa, por uma ampla variedade de artistas. Juntam-se ainda três importantes acervos, um dedicado aos livros de arte, outro aos livros de artista e um dedicado ao multimédia interactivo artístico, todos eles compostos por milhares de entradas.
