What does it mean to cross a border that people have always lived across?

It means moving from one side to the other without feeling that you have entered a different land.

It means finding the same landscape, the same river, familiar ways of speaking, shared histories and ways of life that do not end at the line drawn on a map.

Between the Minho and Galicia, the border has long been a place of passage, work, smuggling, emigration and encounter.

Today, we can cross it by car.

But for generations, it has been crossed by people, families, words, customs and memories.

A border can divide territories.
It does not necessarily divide the lives that inhabit them.

This is how we do things.

Two people walk along an old country path, taking in the terraced hillsides, the Minho valley and the villages scattered across the slopes.

They stop to photograph the clear waters of the Vez, then continue along the ecovia, surrounded by vegetation and the sound of running water and birdsong.

Later, they spread a blanket beneath the birch trees and share some local food.

There is very little else to do.

A horse runs past. Birds sing. Then the quiet returns.

No rush. Nothing to tick off a list.

Just time to be in a place.

Mountain Landscape — Between Land and Vine

How does culture take shape in a mountain landscape?

We walk between Porta do Mezio, Soajo and Grade, observing a landscape shaped by terrain, water, fields, villages and paths.

We follow the traces of a long relationship between communities and the land.

And, in the end, we reach the vineyards.

The landscape becomes w**e: land, slopes and culture take on a new expression.

Walk. Observe. Stay.

Why is Sistelo a human-shaped landscape?

Because what we see did not happen by chance.
It is the result of generations of persistence.

Terraces, stone walls, paths, irrigation channels and fields were built and cared for over time.

The mountain was gradually transformed to make life possible.

In Sistelo, nature and culture are not separate.

The landscape is the expression of that relationship.

A landscape shaped by time.
