The Dawood Foundation TDF Magnifiscience Centre shows us how everything around us connects with its three new interactive exhibits. They tell us that the way we handle money, the balance that keeps ecosystems standing, and the histories buried under centuries of sediment; are not separate stories.

ASPAC Conference 2026 SCIENCE EXCHANGE TRACKS (SETs)

Dear ASPAC family,

Happy new beginnings in an old world! We know that the same challenges exist in this new year and most likely, new challenges will come our way. But what we can change is the dynamics we have with the things within and beyond our control. We can work together more, we can be more dedicated, we can be more creative. Those are the things that are within our control that we can meet this old world with.

For starters, we have the ASPAC Conference 2026 coming up on August 19-22! It will be a VERY INDEED kind of conference from the past decades. Your ASPAC EXCO worked hard to come up with very relevant and exciting topics. ON top of that, the format is going to be very different. While registration for Early BIRD for $280 will start in February, we would like to inform you this early about the conference and to prepare to send as many of your team members as you can. This is an ASPAC Conference that will be most effective and relevant to ALL professional levels across our institutions so we would strongly encourage sending your team members from various roles.

We have compressed the conference proper into 2 days August 19-20 with Aug 21-22 as "Bonding time" for optional tours. There will be a night for national costume.

There will be 12 main tracks we now call SCIENCE EXCHANGE TRACKS (SETs) which will be 3.5 hours each. Please note that reading of a presentation within a SET is limited to only 10 minutes - the rest should be for interactivity (Q and A, games, workshops etc). EACH SET has an assigned Champion and in our next announcement, we will identify those Champions to whom you can send your proposed pitches to.

🎭 INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE DRAMA COMPETITION 2025 WINNERS

Science Centre Singapore hosted the International Science Drama Competition (ISDC) Grand Finals on 3 August 2025. This marks a significant milestone as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the International Science Drama Competition. It is supported by the Asia Pacific Network of Science & Technology Centres (ASPAC) and co-organised by the ISDC Steering Committee.

ISDC uniquely blends science with performing arts, equipping young learners to creatively convey scientific concepts. This distinctive approach not only helps students master complex ideas but also sparks a deeper passion for science through the power of storytelling. Championing STEM education across borders, this year’s competition saw young minds coming together from Singapore, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, Bolivia and Brunei.

This year’s theme “Energy Matters!” resonates with the United Nations’ declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. It also marks 100 years since the birth of quantum mechanics - a timely reminder of how science continues to shape the world we live in.

This year, we introduced a fourth category called “Short Clips”. This innovative format challenges participants to distil scientific concepts into compelling 60-second videos tailored for social media platforms, reflecting the dynamic ways modern audiences consume information. It complements the existing categories namely - Junior (in 2015), Open (in 2017), and Short Films (in 2021). Introduction of new categories through the years demonstrates our commitment to embrace diverse storytelling formats as they continue to evolve across different media platforms.

A big thank you to Science Beijing Network, National Science Museum (Thailand), Seria Energy Lab (Brunei), Indonesia Science Center, Gwacheon National Science Museum (Korea), Andean Road Countries for Science and Technology (Bolivia), Petrosains, The Discovery Centre (Malaysia), The Mind Museum (Philippines) and Asia Pacific Network of Science & Technology Centres (ASPAC) for partnering us on this fruitful venture.
