LEGACY IN FOCUS: PAF’S 78-YEAR JOURNEY | 10 Days to D-Day
Did you know? On September 9, 2013, MNLF rebels loyal to Nur Misuari attempted to seize Zamboanga City Hall but failed, instead occupying parts of the city and taking civilians hostage. In response, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) played a vital role as a force multiplier and humanitarian responder. Using Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft, the PAF swiftly transported troops and armored vehicles to support ground operations.
Despite the threat posed by the fighting near Edwin Andrews Air Base, PAF ground forces secured the area to maintain uninterrupted flight operations. Aerial surveillance further enhanced situational awareness and provided critical intelligence to government forces on the ground. After 20 days of intense urban combat, hostage situations, and large-scale displacement of civilians, the Armed Forces of the Philippines declared the end of combat operations on September 28, 2013.
From its humble beginnings to its transformation into a modern air defense force, the Philippine Air Force continues to soar - upholding its legacy of integrity, service and excellence.
Join us in 10 days as we celebrate the 78th anniversary of the PAF’s unwavering service to the nation!
