📣Today is the 13th, and we have a big announcement to make 🥁🥁🥁
We’ve totally revamped the Thirteen Artists Awards website‼️

Originally launched in 2021, the platform now provides a more comprehensive look at the program’s history, featuring information on the exhibitions and artists from the first selection in 1970 to the 2024 awardees. Serving as a record of the contemporary Filipino artists recognized by the CCP over the decades, the website documents the diverse visual languages that have shaped the local art scene.

Explore the website and check out all the archival materials and accessible content at https://thirteenartists.culturalcenter.gov.ph!

This featured artwork is an oil painting titled ‘House of Life’ by National Artist for Visual Arts Jose Joya, with dynamic brushstrokes and impasto that are hallmarks of his abstract expressionist style. This work may also be familiar to you if you’ve ever visited the National Museum of Fine Arts in 2023-2025, as this was exhibited in the ‘Man and Nature’ section of the exhibition ‘Selections from the CCP 21st Century Art Museum (21AM) Collection’!

In line with the visual theme of National Heritage Month this year, we present a banig (mat) from the CCP 21st Century Art Museum (21AM) ethnography collection. Created by weavers of Mindanao, this was commissioned by the Cultural Center of the Philippines in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution for the annual Folklife Festival, an international exhibition of living cultural heritage. The banig represents the weaving together of the strands that are the many stories, traditions, and identities of Filipinos across generations that make up our rich and vibrant culture. Happy National Heritage Month! 🇵🇭

Happy National Flag Day! 🇵🇭 On this occasion, we present a work by Benjie Torrado Cabrera titled ‘Mother and Child’, from the CCP 21st Century Art Museum (21AM) Collection.

In this monoprint, we see the titular figures wrapped in the flag. A cool purple to blue gradient covers the top, with lighter colors cutting across the center, like the ink was lifted off. Collage-like in its cut-out and textured appearance and the mix of hard lines and gradients, the creation of monoprints usually employ unique combinations of printmaking techniques, allowing experimental styles that cannot be replicated.
