𝐄𝐢𝐝 𝐌𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐤! ☪🕌🕋

As the NMP museums nationwide are closed today in celebration of 𝐄𝐢𝐝 𝐚𝐥-𝐀𝐝𝐡𝐚, we feature the "𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐤𝐚", 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐫'𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐠.

Declared a National Cultural Treasure in 2015 by the National Museum, the “Maradika”, the Qur’an of Bayang, is considered one of the earliest manuscripts in Lanao. It bears the name “𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒊𝒌𝒂” (similar to “𝑴𝒆𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒌𝒂” in the Malay language, meaning “freedom”) following the practice of bestowing a specific name on each existing copy of the Qur’an, because of the limited copies available to Muslims in Lanao Del Sur during the early years of Islam in the area. The Maradika was believed to have been passed on to Sayyidna’s descendants and thus regarded as a family heirloom. It is handwritten in Arabic calligraphy.

The Qur’an of Bayang is currently on display at the 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡, 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞: 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐨 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐭𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 exhibition at the Gallery 5, 3/F of the National Museum of Anthropology, which opened in October 2014 on the occasion of that year’s Eid al-Adha.

​Please be guided by our operating hours for the Holy Week break (April 2–5, 2026):

All Museum Shops in Central (Fine Arts & Anthropology), Cebu, and Davao.

​✅ SPECIAL SCHEDULE (PALAWAN):
Our Palawan Store and Souvenir Shop will be OPEN on Black Saturday (April 4) from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM to serve our local visitors.

​✨ EASTER SUNDAY (April 5):
All branches will resume regular operations from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
