It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Juvenal Sanso, a visionary who has left behind an indelible mark on the art world, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, passion, and artistic excellence.
Galerie Joaquin has had the honor of being the main platform for showcasing his work for the past two decades, and we are sincerely and deeply grateful for his many contributions to the art community.
In our moment of immeasurable loss, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Sanso’s family, friends, patrons and collectors.
Juvenal Sanso (b. 1929) is one of the best-known members of the Philippine Modernist movement. Born in Reus, Catalonia, he moved to Manila five years later, where his family established a wrought-iron business.
Juvenal Sanso is widely recognized as one of the foremost luminaries within the current landscape of Philippine art. Since embarking on his artistic journey in the 1950s, Sanso has achieved remarkable commercial and critical acclaim, receiving local and international accolades. His paintings captivate patrons through the expert fusion of beauty and melancholy, turning his scenes into powerful reflections of his life and inner world. The profound impact of his artistry and the exceptional quality of his work have firmly established him as one of the most esteemed and sought-after artists in the art scene.
