Dean Coffman – Artist Biography
I am a multidisciplinary artist with a passion for both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art. My creative journey spans decades, exploring various mediums, including painting, sculpture, and pottery.
Since 1983, I have thrown over a quarter million pieces of pottery, crafting planters, vases, plates, and dish gardens—primarily in pottery shops. My work extends beyond functional ceramics to large-scale pottery, where I skillfully join multiple 40-pound clay pieces to create monumental forms.
In addition to pottery, I have a deep appreciation for sculpting. I create lifelike figures of people and horses, up to 18 inches tall, using both fired and non-fired clay. Some of my most intricate sculptures capture the beauty of landscapes and equestrian subjects, bringing movement and emotion to each piece.
My artistic process is driven by a love for texture, form, and the tactile nature of clay. Whether shaping delicate sculptures or crafting large ceramic works, my goal is to create art that resonates with depth and character.
