Congratulations to Mainline Steam's Founder and Chairman, Ian Welch, for being made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Years Honours for services to Rail Preservation. This is well deserved for all his years of effort in preserving and operating fantastic examples of New Zealand's rail history for current and future generations.

Hi to all.
Another year is coming to an end, it hasn`t been a great one for us due to issues completely beyond our control , progress with earthworks and the Museum build has been very slow. We are optimistic that we will be moving forward at a greater pace in 2026.
We would like to thank our inaugural sponsors Ian and the late Ruth Stevenson, Transport Trailers, Southpac Trucks,Fruehauf NZ, Modern Transport Engineers, Automint and all of our supporters for their continued support as we move forward.

Have a great Christmas and we wish you all the very best for the New Year.

From The Trustees and Committee, Mercer Transport Museum.

Hi all , after a long quiet winter it`s nearing the time for some earthworks to resume at the Mercer site . In the past we have had people asking if they could help out with volunteer work. There may be opportunities on the site in the near future. Anyone genuinely interested , please message us with a contact number.
Thanks.

We are sad to hear the passing of Crelin Keig of New Plymouth on 14 September at the age of 95. Crelin managed Taranaki based company ,Inglewood Motors Ltd , he served on the Executive Committee of the New Zealand Heavy Haulage Association from 1971 to 1996, the longest term of any person in the Association’s history. During this period, he was President of the Association in 1977 and 1978 and was instrumental in raising many issues with the government during his time. A knowledgeable guy who was always there for the betterment of the Industry. Sincere condolences to all of Crelin`s family. RIP Crelin.

We were saddened to learn a great personal friend and strong supporter of the future Mercer Transport Museum, Les Everson passed away early yesterday morning.Les was very well known and respected throughout the country in the transport and heavy haulage industry. Les worked either as a driver or owner driver or manager for Wilkins & Davies, Titans, O`Brien`s Freightways, Lendich Bros. Camerons .. In Auckland for Dales Freightways, in New Plymouth with Hookers , in Wellington for Groundwork, then Mogal/Owen`s Heavy Haul, returned to Dales as a Haul Supervisor on Motunui Gas to Gas project, later was one of the first O/D pilots to be licensed. There was very little that Les hasn`t done in the industry. Our heartfelt condolences go to Marie and all of Les`s family. RIP Les.

We had a lunch at Mercer, then showed a group of old mates, Truckies & Truck mechanics around Dave Carr`s yard above the site of the future Mercer Transport Museum. They all enjoyed seeing a few old trucks that are there and showed a lot of interest while Dave gave them a run down on the plans and future of MTM. Not a lot happening at this time of year, but hopefully things will speed up after winter. Thanks Earl Edwards ( Popeye Pics ) for the photos. Left to Right..
