Join us during Whānau Day this Saturday 12 September for a special curator kōrero in the Homestead Galleries!

At 1pm in the Homestead Galleries join CEAC Curator Java Bentley for a kōrero about our current exhibitions Tūturu Kāenga and Witipū. Investigating “rediscovery” as a radical creative methodology., this session bridges two distinct gallery spaces: one that re-examines and reshapes the mauri of a single word, and another that returns to and alters a foundational human experience.

Part of Te Pou Theatre's annual Kōanga Festival, Whānau Day is a vibrant celebration of storytelling from Aotearoa and Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, kapa haka, cultural performances, kēmu, arts activities, kai and more!

Now showing in the Homestead Galleries

Tūturu Kāenga is an exhibition by father and son, George Konia and Brook Konia. Inspired by a road trip together along Highway 35 and wānanga at Hinerupe Marae, Te Araroa, in 2025. They each carried stories home, letting them inspire their creativity to become the artworks in this exhibition.

E ai ki te whakatauāki “Hei a koe i te huka o te tai ki te ao parauri. Ko te ahi e kā mai rā, kaua e tineia koe. Waiho he mahi ahi mō tō kāenga.”
The above whakatauākī (proverb) is remembered as the words spoken by tipuna, elder sister Te Aopare to younger sister Hinerupe. This whakatauākī encapsulates warmth, a welcome home, and life of the hearth—a source of identity and connection, and anchors this exhibition for the artists.

In collaboration with Auckland Urban Development Office, join local artist Penny Mere Howard in Henderson's Catherine Plaza this Saturday for a vibrant and creative community print workshop! Inspired by the beauty of Aotearoa's flora and traditional kowhaiwhai patterns, we'll guide you through the process of creating stunning foam board prints.

Stop by anytime between 10am and 2pm to print your designs onto colourful sugar paper, and take home your unique artwork. This free drop-in workshop is suitable for all ages and skill levels. It's a fantastic opportunity to connect with your community, learn new skills, and contribute to the revitalisation of Henderson's town centre.

Celebrate Te Kōpua Henderson’s vibrant new billboard Ngā Taonga o Te Wao Nui ā Tiriwa (The Treasures of the Great Forest of Tiriwa). Painted and designed by West Auckland based artist Penny Howard the installation injects a joyful burst of identity, culture, and rich colour into our everyday Henderson environment.

In this creative weekend workshop, you will learn how to transform the smooth, waterproof material of old juice or milk cartons into unique printing plates. You’ll etch, score, and incise your designs to create richly textured prints with surprising detail and character.

Suitable for both beginners and those with some creative experience, this relaxed workshop encourages experimentation and playful mark-making in a supportive environment.
