Just finished my third painting of the "O" series. This time I added a dark forest 🌳🔮🌲 More paintings are on their way as I feel there is plenty to explore in this composition.

2023 marked the 125th anniversary of the birth of artist M.C. Escher. For this occasion, Grafische Werkplaats (The Hague, NL) invited me to work from the theme 'infinity' while using a printmaking technique of choice. This provided a great opportunity to learn how to make etchings for the first time.

I created a black version in edition of 3, and a duo-tone black/blue version in edition of 1.
For this etching I used a copper plate of 30x40cm, which took approximately 3-4 months to engrave. A scalpel and needle were my tools of choice.

When the light hits right, a tree can transform into a lightning strike. In my study of the shape of trees and lightning, I found that their expression appears to be very similar.

I aim to integrate the impact of light reflection in my engravings. The darkest parts of a scratchboard can become the most bright. What a playful duality.
