I’ve been using these apps for years and they’ve saved me a lot of time and given me a lot of peace. Being informed about what you put on and in your body is a form of self advocacy.

We knew what could happen, we did what we could. Truthfully, it’s likely to get worse. Not enough of the population are fed up enough, or scared enough, or uncomfortable enough. I think a lot more people will need to be pushed to the edge to take a principled and vocal stand. And because of that, I’m going to do my best to be well despite all of this.

This is Chief Nike Davies-Okundaye, aka Mama Nike. She owns the largest art gallery in West Africa. I met her at a party during and she invited me to a private lunch at her gallery the following Sunday to meet her artisans whose works she hoped I could help promote internationally.

She is one of the most central figures in African art and crafts of our time, with over 100 international exhibitions spanning five decades. To have this moment with her is an honor I hold with deep respect and gratitude.
