'The Tyburn Foundation has announced the launch of its highly anticipated international residency program, set to begin in Spring 2025. The aim of the initiative is to encourage artistic exchange and collaboration between African and global institutions, further cementing Africa’s presence in the international contemporary art scene.
Based in Umbria, Italy, the foundation is committed to providing African artists with opportunities for professional development, mentorship, and creative exploration. This residency program builds on the legacy of Tyburn Gallery, a pioneering space that championed emerging African artists. Now, under the direction of South African art collector and former gallerist Emma Menell, the Tyburn Foundation will take a more holistic and long-term approach to artist support, offering a platform beyond the constraints of the commercial art market. One of the most significant partnerships announced is with Civitella Ranieri, a renowned artist residency housed in a 15th-century castle in Umbria.
