Pink 에피소드 No.1은 익숙한 사물들이 중력을 벗어난 듯 서로를 지탱하며 하나의 낯선 풍경을 만들어낸다.

분홍빛 오브제와 푸른 공간은 현실과 비현실의 경계를 흐리고, 화면 속 균형은 끊임없이 흔들리면서도 조용한 긴장을 유지한다.

유현미는 실제 오브제를 직접 제작하고 공간을 연출한 뒤 사진으로 촬영하고, 다시 회화적 개입을 더하는 과정을 통해 이미지가 생성되는 물리적 조건 자체를 탐구한다. 회화와 사진 사이의 메커니즘을 교차시키며, 이미지가 단순한 기록이 아니라 ‘제작된 현실’임을 드러낸다.

익숙한 사물을 새로운 시선으로 바라보게 하는 화면은 현실과 이미지의 경계를 넘나들며, 우리가 세계를 인식하는 방식을 다시 생각하게 한다.

Pink Episode No.1 presents a surreal landscape where familiar objects appear to defy gravity, balancing delicately to create an unfamiliar yet harmonious scene.

The contrast between soft pink forms and a tranquil blue space blurs the boundary between reality and illusion, while the composition maintains a quiet sense of tension.

By constructing physical objects, staging them in space, photographing the scene, and introducing painterly interventions, Hyunmi Yoo investigates the very conditions under which images are produced. Moving between painting and photography, she reveals that an image is not merely a record of reality, but a carefully constructed reality.

Rather than offering a fixed view, the work invites viewers to reconsider how images shape the way we perceive the world.

물의 표면은 끊임없이 흔들리며 세상을 비춘다.

윤향로는 그 변화하는 표면을 수없이 중첩된 흔적과 층위로 풀어내며, 고정된 풍경이 아닌 끊임없이 생성되는 시각 경험을 화면 위에 펼쳐낸다.

화면을 가득 채운 선과 점, 그리고 반복되는 층위는 하나의 풍경을 재현하기보다 시간과 기억이 축적되는 과정을 드러낸다. 가까이에서는 미세한 흔적들이 흩어져 보이지만, 한 걸음 물러서면 서로 다른 층위들은 하나의 흐름으로 연결되며 새로운 감각을 만들어낸다.

윤향로는 디지털 이미지의 구조와 회화의 물질성을 교차시키며, 우리가 이미지를 인식하는 방식을 탐구한다. 화면은 단순한 재현의 공간이 아니라, 디지털 환경에서 생성되고 축적되는 시각 경험이 회화로 전환되는 장소가 된다.

화면은 하나의 이미지를 보여주기보다, 시간이 쌓이고 감각이 만들어지는 과정을 천천히 드러낸다.

The surface of water is never still—it reflects the world through constant movement.

Hyangro Yoon translates this ever-changing surface into countless overlapping traces and layers, creating not a fixed landscape but a visual experience that is continuously formed and transformed.

Rather than depicting a landscape, the layered lines, marks, and textures reveal the gradual accumulation of time and memory. Up close, the surface dissolves into countless fragments; from a distance, these layers merge into a single visual flow.

By bringing together the structure of digital imagery and the materiality of painting, Yoon explores how images are perceived today. The canvas becomes more than a site of representation—it is a place where visual experiences shaped by the digital environment are transformed into painting.

Rather than presenting a fixed image, the painting slowly reveals the process through which time accumulates and perception takes shape.

Pink Episode No.1은 현실의 사물들이 중력을 벗어난 듯 새로운 질서를 이루는 장면을 보여준다. 화면 속 오브제들은 실제와 환영, 사진과 회화의 경계를 넘나들며 하나의 낯선 풍경을 만들어낸다.

유현미는 오브제를 직접 제작하고 공간을 연출한 뒤 이를 촬영하고 다시 회화적 개입을 더하는 방식을 통해, 이미지가 생성되는 물리적 조건 자체를 탐구한다. 회화와 사진 사이의 메커니즘을 교차시키며, 이미지가 단순한 기록이 아니라 ‘제작된 현실’임을 드러낸다.

《Pink Episode No.1》은 익숙한 사물을 새로운 감각으로 바라보게 하며, 현실과 이미지 사이에서 우리가 세계를 어떻게 인식하는지를 다시 질문한다.

Pink Episode No.1 presents a surreal landscape in which familiar objects seem to escape gravity and form a new visual order.

Hyunmi Yoo constructs physical objects, stages them in space, photographs the scene, and then introduces painterly interventions. Through this process, she investigates the very conditions under which images are produced. By dissolving the boundaries between painting and photography, Yoo reveals that an image is not merely a record of reality, but a carefully constructed reality itself.

Rather than depicting the familiar as it is, Pink Episode No.1 encourages viewers to reconsider how reality is perceived through images.

짙은 어둠 속에서 희미하게 떠오르는 하나의 풍경.
윤향로의 회화는 1945년 오키나와 전투의 흔적이 남아 있는 두 동굴에서 시작된다. 같은 시대, 비슷한 상황 속에 놓였지만 서로 다른 선택이 이루어진 두 장소는 작가에게 하나의 질문을 남겼다.

무엇이 삶과 죽음을 가르는가.

작가는 역사적 사실을 직접 재현하기보다, 수없이 쌓인 흔적과 층위를 화면에 축적하며 기억과 시간의 깊이를 담아낸다. 명확한 형상보다 감각과 분위기를 따라가다 보면, 화면은 하나의 풍경을 넘어 역사를 마주하는 공간으로 확장된다.

A faint landscape slowly emerges from the darkness.

Yoon Hyang-ro’s paintings originate from two caves in Okinawa that bear the scars of the 1945 Battle of Okinawa. Though shaped by similar historical circumstances, these neighboring sites became places where profoundly different choices were made, leaving the artist with a single enduring question:

What separates life from death?

Rather than directly depicting historical events, Yoon layers traces, textures, and fragments across the canvas, evoking the accumulated weight of memory and time. As the viewer moves beyond recognizable forms and follows atmosphere, depth, and sensation, the painting unfolds into a space where history is not simply represented, but quietly encountered.

해, 산, 사슴, 돌.
오랫동안 한국의 십장생은 장수와 행복을 기원하는 상징으로 우리의 삶과 함께해 왔다.

유현미는 이러한 전통적 이미지를 그대로 재현하지 않는다. 익숙한 상징들을 새로운 공간에 배치하고, 사진과 회화의 경계를 넘나드는 작업 과정을 통해 오늘의 감각으로 다시 바라보게 한다.

전통은 과거의 것이 아니라, 지금도 새로운 의미를 만들어낼 수 있는 살아 있는 언어이다. 《십장생》은 오래된 상징을 현대적인 시선으로 다시 읽어내며, 과거와 현재를 하나의 화면 안에서 연결한다.

The sun, mountains, deer, and stones.

For centuries, the Sipjangsaeng (Ten Symbols of Longevity) have represented wishes for longevity, prosperity, and happiness, becoming deeply rooted in Korean culture and everyday life.

Rather than simply reproducing these traditional symbols, Yu Hyun-mi reimagines them through a contemporary lens. By arranging familiar motifs within carefully constructed spaces and moving fluidly between photography and painting, she invites viewers to encounter these enduring symbols in a new way.

Tradition, in her work, is not a relic of the past but a living visual language that continues to evolve. Through the Sipjangsaeng series, Yu connects the past and the present, transforming familiar cultural imagery into a contemporary visual experience.
