Port Adelaide’s wool stores are from an era when wool was king.

These cavernous red-brick warehouses stored, graded, and compressed millions of fleeces before shipping them worldwide. The north-facing, saw-tooth glass roofs were built specifically to let in clear daylight, allowing buyers to judge fleece quality without shadows messing with their view.

The clatter of hydraulic presses and auction calls has quietened down now, leaving behind a neighborhood of massive brick cathedrals.

A solid week of rain and wind will give anyone a serious case of cabin fever.
Thankfully the sun finally made an appearance today. We jumped in the car and drove twenty minutes down the road to the McLaren Vale. An afternoon of blue skies and vineyards was exactly what we needed.
