The River Gallery congrats all the winners in the Drawn to the Wild countrywide exhibition/competition held at Shinta Mani Angkor by the Shinta Mani Foundation.

This show was conceived and designed by Bill Bensley to draw attention and awareness to wildlife preservation and conservation -- and wow did he do a great job bringing thousands of people together.

Last night witnessing the kids, teens and adults who won prizes be recognized for their hard word was super inspiring.

Also special note: One of the winners to receive the Bronze Award for the Young Children's Category, has been studying art at our NGO Colors of Cambodia for a while now - Suong Chanchhorka. We are so proud of you!

As written by the Alliance Franรงaise Siem Reap:

๐ŸŒฟ Looking back on โ€œAfter the Rainโ€
Last Friday, we were delighted to open the doors to โ€œAfter the Rainโ€, a collective exhibition bringing together French and Cambodian artists living in Siem Reap. The opening was a great success, marked by wonderful encounters, inspiring conversations and a fantastic turnout.

A huge thank you to Julia from ๐“ฃ๐“ฑ๐“ฎ ๐“ก๐“ฒ๐“ฟ๐“ฎ๐“ป ๐“–๐“ช๐“ต๐“ต๐“ฎ๐“ป๐”‚ for her warm welcome and for giving us the opportunity to bring this exhibition to life in such a beautiful space.

We would also like to thank the curatorial committee, Xavier Caillaud and Pierre-Andrรฉ Romano, for their work and vision for this edition, as well as Sary Nou, patron of this edition, for his support and commitment to the project.

Thank you to the FCC Angkor by Avani for the opening reception, and to Cecile Hinas for providing the music throughout the evening.
Finally, a big thank you to all the participating artists for their contribution, creativity and for bringing this exhibition to life:

We just want to say a MONSTROUS thank you to everyone who came to our cultural event on Friday.

The vernissage of Aprรจs la pluie was a smashing success brimming with over 150 guests - art patrons, collectors, esteemed members of the community and beyond attended, creating such a warm, convivial feeling.

These are just three snapshots off director Julia Haw's iPhone, but we have professional footage and pics coming soon.

With huge gratitude extended to the Alliance Franรงaise Siem Reap and Ambassade de France au Cambodge for organizing this incredible cultural affair. And to Xavier Callaud and Pierre Romano for your superb curation.

And of course, the biggest thanks to patron Sary Nou, and all participating artists, whom will be highlighted over the next two months for the duration of the show.

As the sun sets on Siem Reap, we are featuring the work of Loun Lon or Salone.

Salone is well known for her skyscapes and low horizons, and "Sun Flare" is no exception. A stunning moody sky swirls and undulates above a vibrant green budding rice field. The sky features cerulean, raw umber, Napthol yellow, lavender gray and vermillion orange hues - with sun rays shooting down between the scattered clouds. The solar energy stretches down, kissing the top tips of the rice - indicating that here, finally, during rainy season - between hot sun and buckets of rain - the rice can fully bloom. Little white drops of dew still remain on many of the thin green stems. This field represents the livelihood of many Cambodians, who depend on Green Season rain to nurture their crops.

On this beautiful rainy evening we are featuring the works of Set Soeng.

Sing is an artist born and raised in and around Siem Reap, and also serves as a full-time teacher at the Colors of Cambodia art school.

We were lucky to display two new works by Sing in this exhibition - as he has been exploring new territory with vibrant color ways and fresh perspectives on classic Khmer themes.

"Echoes of the Dry Lake," is a piece of remembrance. An overturned boat in the lower right hand corner signifies that the fisherman have taken some time off during the dry season. Four brittle and dry leaves, as well as a pod seed from the lotus flower overshadow the boat - a memory as well. What lends most to the feeling of the past is the vivid hues of electric orange washed over the entire canvas. Dry season: HOT. Blazing. Arid. Aching for rain. Fishermen ready for a lucrative catch of fish. And when the rain finally floods in, one nearly forgets how difficult or long the dry season was.

Conversely, Spean Thma Bridge features a very unique area of the Angkor Park. Just West of Ta Keo, it is one of the few Khmer Empire bridges to remain standing. These bridges are constructed using "corbelling," or an "ancient building technique where the rows of stone step outward from a wall, with each successive course projecting slightly further than the one below it." In this image Green Season has finally arrived. The moss covers the bridge stones in a soft blanket, and a mist hangs in the background sky. For many who live in Cambodia, THIS is the best season of all.

For the duration of Green Season Reverie, The River Gallery has had the privilege of working with widely known artist Chhim Sothy for the very first time. We happily placed 3 of his watercolors in private collections as well during this time.

If you're interested in any of these works, please inquire within, as they will only be at the gallery for another month or so until the remainder head back to his bustling studio in Phnom Penh. (please look for the notes next to each work, as some of these have already sold)

Sothy, born in 1969 in Kandal Province, is one of Cambodia's most acclaimed contemporary painters. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major public and private collections, including the National Art Museum in Singapore, the National Art Museum in Beijing, and the Royal Palace Art Museum in Phnom Penh.

Sothy works with a fervor. He works intuitively and with the skill one can only acquire after years of patient study, focused intent and passion.

The first work pictured here is an oil painting, while the rest are watercolors.
