You might know the fascinating story of Jo van Gogh Bonger, also known as ‘the woman who made Vincent famous’. She published Vincent van Gogh’s letters, organized exhibitions in the Netherlands and throughout the world, and made strategic sales to private individuals and influential dealers.

Hans Luijten, Senior Researcher at the Van Gogh Museum, wrote this book about her life and it is now published in English by Bloomsbury Publishing UK.

Our Story

Kendi Art is an online marketplace for Contemporary African Art. Our team of African Art enthusiasts carefully curate artwork from the mostly invisible community of artists who are keen on expanding their exposure to the rest of the world.

Kendi is a word derived from the Bantu language group meaning “lover of”. Therefore the platform is for lovers of art. The story of Kendi Art began when founder, Kui, stumbled upon an art collective near her home on a lazy Sunday afternoon. That chance visit turned into a monthly ritual through which she found a sanctuary that allowed her to immerse herself in the beauty and variety of the artwork. This ritual also exposed her to the challenges faced by many artists, many stemming from limited access to a wider, global audience. There began the journey of Kendi Art.
