The Kintsugi Labo JAPAN

The Kintsugi Labo JAPAN We bring you the sustainable worldview that is not “good as new”, but “better than new”. The typical way of thinking is that broken vessels must be discarded.

Kintsugi is a unique Japanese technique in which broken vessels are repaired using urushi (Japanese lacquer). In Japan, imperfections such as cracks and stains on vessels are considered to create value. However, we believe upcycling gives new life to such vessels and enriches the lives of those who use them. By reviving the spirit of the craftsman, who has poured his or her time into the piece, th

e vessels can be upcycled rather than being thrown away. This is what modern, sustainable luxury is all about. We hope that you, too, see the beauty in Kintsugi, a practice which conveys the Japanese spirit.

Adorned Kintsugi: Celestial Fragments in Gold and Light
An exquisite Ko-Imari bowl reimagined through urushi lacquer, 24K gold, and luminous raden inlay — a dialogue between past and present.

Restored and adorned by urushi lacquer artist .hata ,
the surface glows with layers of pure gold, its radiant expanse quietly embracing what was once lost.
Subtle traces of mother-of-pearl shimmer within, echoing light across time — a serene harmony between earth and sky.

More than restoration, this piece is a meditation on resilience, craftsmanship, and the quiet radiance found in imperfection.

💎 Now available for discerning collectors.

✨ New Artist Spotlight ✨
We’re pleased to welcome a new artist, to The Kintsugi Labo JAPAN.

Rio Hashimoto, born in Shiga and based in Kyoto, holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Urushi lacquering from Kyoto City University of Arts (completed in 2025).
Her practice expands the expressive possibilities of urushi lacquer beyond tradition — from sculpture to video installation.
By embracing what is often excluded or overlooked, she challenges conventional notions of beauty and explores the subtle space between empathy and rejection in human perception.

Her latest Kintsugi-inspired artwork is currently on view at Artist Gate 2025 at A-LAB, Amagasaki city, a group exhibition celebrating emerging Japanese artists.
Through her work, she confronts "impurity," exploring the boundary between acceptance and rejection.
She aims to transform fleeting sensations of discomfort and repulsion into meaningful experiences that can bring about change within viewers.

🌿 Kintsugi Mastery Program 2025 – Midway Reflections 🌿

This journey continues to reveal the depth of Japanese lacquer artistry, from exploring the limitless possibilities of urushi through hands-on experiments to the delicate practices of gold leaf application and powder sprinkling.

Our master gave her a gift of a knife with her name engraved on it 🎁

We were also honored to have local media cover the event and share her thoughts on and passion for kintsugi and urushi.

The program is only halfway, yet the spirit of urushi continues to inspire us all.

Stay tuned as we carry this exploration forward ✨

✨ New Release: Earthen Pulse — A Shigaraki Ware Kintsugi Collection ✨

More than restoration, these works are a rebirth.
Our master has revitalized three Shigaraki ware cups through sophisticated urushi techniques—yakitsuke-urushi (fired lacquer), kawarinuri (layered lacquer art), and haku-e (gilded leaf painting)—transforming them into truly original creations.

🍂 No.1: The Genesis — A poem of creation, woven from flame and foil.
🌊 No.2: The Expression — The dynamism of renewal, revealed in Kawarinuri’s depth.
🕊️ No.3: The Ritual — A contemplative harmony of gold and urushi, inviting stillness.

Each is a singular work of Kintsugi art, embodying the timeless philosophy of wabi-sabi. 🍵

💎 Available now for discerning collectors. 💎
