A researcher was "going through this book of C19th poems / songs and saw a couple of bards from Glenurquhart. "Nighean donn a bhroillich bhain." written by William MacKay, Senior - father of William MacKay, solicitor and author. It's on page 67 of "Gaelic Bards from 1825-1875" by Rev. A. Maclean Sinclair of Cape Breton:
https://www.electricscotland.com/books/pdf/Gaelic%20Bards%20from%201825%20to%201875.pdf.

On page 72 there's a poem by Angus MacDonald. Is Bunlevit in Glenurquhart or is it a version of Bunloit?"

From one of the people who visited the exhibition: "Thank you for organising a great event. we came with a friend who used to live in the area. I thought I was just going to be the driver, but I found so much to engage with. The people hosting the different pieces of Glenurquhat history were very encouraging. You should all be proud of what you achieved."

This painting was bought for
the city by Tom Honeyman.

It’s by Gabriel Dante Rossetti.

It is historically important, rare and exquisite. A value cannot be put on it.

Tom Honeyman bought it on our behalf for only £125.

Tom Honeyman was an amazing fellow. The type of character that in a bygone era Scotland seemed to churn out by the bucket load.

From humble beginnings he studied medicine, survived the First World War and became a doctor in the East End.

He moved into the world of art and eventually became director of Glasgow Museums.
He secured the Burrell Collection for the city.
He set up the Scottish Arts Review Magazine.
He was a founder of The Citizens Theatre and of the Scottish Tourist board.

He also bought Salvador Dali’s world famous Christ of the Cross of St John for £8,200.

Which is quite possibly the best investment that anyone ever made in our fair city or in any other for that matter.

Following the recent retirement of Rev Hugh Watt, we are delighted to have Rev Dr Adrian Varwell as our Locum Minister for the foreseeable future. Adrian, and his wife Margaret, live in Drumnadrochit and have been members of Urquhart & Glenmoriston Parish Church since 2011, following ministries in Benbecula, Fort Augustus and Glengarry.

From a background in rural development Adrian has worked amongst communities in the Highlands and Islands for over fifty years, and as a Minister of the Church of Scotland since 1983.

He is committed to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through the church and across the community through our worship services and pastoral work.
