⭐ NIK HUBER “THE 1960” PROJECT - START ⭐

We are incredibly proud to announce that construction has started on the first lot of “The 1960” Dolphins!!! This is a very special project designed by Nik Huber and Cescoscornerguitars, built in collaboration with the fine Rodgau craftsmen and our luthiers.

The concept behind “The 1960” was born from a very simple idea: take Nik’s iconic Dolphin design as the ultimate Artist’s canvas, to create something truly uncompromising, using the same philosophy, materials and specifications that made Kirk Hammett’s prototype so special.

For this first limited run, the essential specs:

🇧🇷 Brazilian Rosewood fingerboards from 1960s stock with CITES

🌳 One-piece highly flamed Mahogany bodies AND necks, carved from wood coming from the same tree, giving each instrument an extraordinary continuity of grain and character, all with Nik Hubers proprietary honey comb body construction. This is the same wood that was used for the Bernie Marsden series.

🍁 Selected, highly figured Maple tops, with some stunning one pieces ones personally selected from the private stashes of Francesco and Nik Huber.

“The 1960” is a tribute to the iconic solid bodies from the golden era with a modern interpretation, providing a lightweight guitar with incredible sustain, special woods, and excellency crafted directly inspired by the original Les Paul standard from 1960 nicknamed “Cecil,” with aged nitrocellulose “period-correct” burst finishes, St. Helen’s aged hardware, and ToneTeam custom-designed pickups. Every detail is treated with the same obsession for vintage instruments that defines Cesco’s Corner Guitars and ToneTeam Restoration’s work.

Just in !! A true holy grail of Italian guitar history.

Discovered directly from the son of its original owner in Novi Ligure, Italy, this extraordinarily early 1959 Wandré WAID model serial number 24 is a fully original, untouched example of Antonio “Wandré” Vandrè Pioli’s radical vision.

Hand-built in Cavriago, this is where guitar, sculpture and pop-art collide: hand-painted tribal artwork, golden side rim, purple-and-white swirl plastic superstructure, tortoise celluloid details and Wandré’s revolutionary metal neck.

One of the most spectacular Wandré instruments we have ever had the privilege to offer.

⭐ 1954 FENDER STRATOCASTER – SERIAL 0146 ⭐

Today we’re happy to present one of the earliest surviving Fender Stratocasters ever made, serial 0146, stamped into its original tremolo back cover. This guitar was once part of one of the first—if not the first—major artist-owned vintage guitar collections, assembled by John Entwistle.

As part of our ToneTeam SCIENCE APPLIED FOR research project, this instrument also underwent extensive scientific examination in collaboration with the University of Perugia. Using state-of-the-art analytical techniques, including mass spectrometry, we thoroughly investigated and validated the originality of its materials, finishes and components.

⭐ 1962 CHARCOAL GIBSON SG ⭐

There was a story about this guitar, that back in the 1970s, its original owner ran into a fire to save it and literally grabbed his beloved 1962 Gibson SG while it was a “live torch”.

It almost sounded too unbelievable to be true…until we were asked to properly refinish it.

❓Guess what? …He wasn’t lying.

The wood has been so severely damaged by the heat that, in places, it has almost turned into…fossilised carbon.

Now it’s in the hands of our luthier, | GUITARSwho will work some of his magic to stabilize, preserve and repair what many would probably consider beyond saving.

⭐ SCIENCE APPLIED FOR ⭐

❓CAN ELECTRON MICROSCOPY DECODE THE VINTAGE PICKUP ALCHEMY ❓

For decades, players, builders, and collectors have debated the materials and manufacturing processes behind the legendary tone of vintage Fender pickups. But can modern science help explain the reasons behind it?

Together with our specialist Alessandro Cinquini and the University of Pisa, we began a research project using electron microscopy and EDS spectroscopy to analyze the elemental composition of vintage and modern Alnico magnets.

The preliminary results are fascinating, revealing both how closely modern makers approach the original formulas, and why chemistry alone cannot explain the magic of vintage tone.

⭐ 1951 FENDER BROADCASTER – PART IV ⭐

What’s a proper and useful application of a blacklight? You can see it here.

Most likely during the 1980s, the entire body was coated with an ambered shellac applied by brush directly over the original, worn factory finish. Decades of use gradually wore away most of this later coating, leaving only traces of the brush strokes, especially on the back of the body. The goal was probably to disguise the uneven appearance created by years of wear and the exposed primer.

Under the pickguard and bridge plate, however, the shellac remained almost completely intact, preserving clear brush marks and revealing the extent of the later intervention. We also found evidence of an unfinished sanding attempt.

Because this body had originally been returned to Fender for refinishing, it’s possible the lacquer was rushed through production and partially adhered to the underside of the pickguard and bridge plate. This would explain why some original finish was missing from the body while fragments remained attached to those parts. Combined with decades of natural wear, this likely led someone to apply the ambered shellac in an attempt to create a more uniform appearance.

Working slowly and constantly checking our progress under blacklight, we were able to remove the later shellac and reveal the untouched 1951 Fender finish beneath.

The result is a far more faithful representation of the guitar’s true condition, allowing its original finish to tell its own story.

Sometimes restoration isn’t about making an instrument look new. It’s about reviving its authentic patina and honest wear by respectfully removing what doesn’t belong while preserving everything that does.

⭐ 1951 FENDER BROADCASTER – PART III ⭐

One of the most delicate operations on this Broadcaster involved its original late 1950 neck pickup.

Fortunately, the pickup had never been rewound and still retained its original windings. However, it had been repaired in the past after the extremely fragile coil wire broke at one of the most critical locations possible: right at the very beginning of the winding, where the ground connection originates.

Unlike a break that occurs further into the coil, this type of damage cannot simply be repaired by unwinding a few turns. The only correct solution is to create a microscopic jumper wire, carefully soldered to the remaining original winding, restoring the ground connection while preserving every possible turn of the original coil.

The previous repair was technically well executed, with a proper micro solder joint, but the repairer did then a poor choice, not to remove the original black cloth ground wire. As a result, the jumper wire had to travel around the outside edge of the baseplate before reaching the eyelet, leaving it exposed and vulnerable to future damage.

As an additional precaution, the lower edge of the original metal cover had also been lightly filed to prevent it from cutting the delicate leads again.

During our restoration, we carefully removed the original cloth ground wire from the eyelet, repositioned the jumper exactly where Fender originally intended the connection to be made, reinstalled the original cloth ground wire, and finally reconnected the ground solder chain back in place.

The result is a fully functional original late 1950 Broadcaster neck pickup, retaining its original windings while eliminating a potential future failure point.

Sometimes the best restoration isn’t about replacing anything, it’s about understanding how to preserve every original detail while ensuring it can safely survive for decades to come.
