“1858 (Cambio)” Armchairs designed by Formafantasma and edited exclusively by our Gallery.

Exhibited now in our new Gallery layout the "1858 (Cambio)” collection, designed by Formafantasma and edited exclusively by our Gallery.
The pieces were part of the 'Cambio’ exhibition, held at the Serpentine Galleries in London in 2020 with the aim of opening a new chapter in its programme, embracing radical approaches to design.
The collection is made in natural solid spruce wood sourced from the Val di Fiemme (Italy), and taken from a single tree among more then 14 million uprooted by a storm in 2018. The lacquered finishing - like that one used in musical instruments- make them more long lasting. Its translucent finish allows the grain of the wood to remain visible.

1858 is the year in which the tree developed its first ring.

‘Cambio’ is an ongoing investigation into the extraction, production and distribution of wood products. The multidisciplinary approach of the exhibition, as well as the collection, highlights the crucial role that design can play in our environment, and its responsibility to look beyond the edges of its borders.

“Ore Streams Console” designed by Formafantasma in 2019 exclusively for our Gallery.

Ore Streams is an ambitious investigation into the recycling of precious electronic waste. The project makes use of diverse media (including objects, video documentation and animation) to address the meaning of production from multiple perspectives, while offering an insight into how design can be an invaluable agent for change.
The collection is designed using form and colour to initiate a deeper exploration of ‘above ground mining’ and the complex role design plays in transforming natural resources into desirable products, composed of a range of office furniture constructed using dead-stock and recycled materials.

The rosewood coffee table from the XYZ Collection designed by Luca Cipelletti in 2018 and mod. 1003 Floor lamp by Gino Sarfatti for Arteluce in 1946 - 1950.

The name xyz sums up Cipelletti’s work on the design of all the products part of the collection. The focus is on their angle: a modelling of the three-dimensional physical space that leads to the cancellation of the three spatial coordinates xyz. Objects change according to the observation point, minimizing their three-dimensional presence and reaching the essence of their function and the material they are made of.

Rare ceiling lamps in double incalmo opaline ivory blown glass with red and orange bands designed by Thomas Stearns in 1961 ca. for Venini Murano.

In November 1960, when Thomas Stearns won a scholarship from the Italian government, he arrived in Italy at Venini where he had the opportunity to deepen further his studies on glass.
After the scholarship he was hired as a guest designer until 1962.
At Venini the aveninimuranortist had the opportunity to create extremely original works, with asymmetrical and organic shapes, characterized by the use of opaque colors with great materiality

The pieces are part of Giustini / Stagetti Italian Modern Design collection.

Roma Chair designed in 2016 by Paolo Canevari exclusively for our Gallery.
The piece made in dyed oak wood, part of the Oggetti Collection, express the metaphysical character inspired by the rationalist Roman architecture of the district EUR in Rome.

The attraction towards the formal and linguistic purity, the constant search for proportion, combined with a passionate interest in the culture of objects, have, over time, led Canevari to develop a close relationship with the applied arts of the early 20th century.

Having, throughout the years, acquired both a culture of, and in-depth expertise within this field, Canevari began to successfully engage in the production of refined, functional objects, drawing upon a long current of experimentation and research developed throughout the 20th century, both in Italy and abroad.

A special glass vase with vertical bands designed by Fulvio Bianconi for Venini in 1951 ca. which represents the artist’s search to new form of expression in glass.
In 1946 the artist went to Murano to learn about the art of glass and met Paolo Venini, a decisive meeting as he led Fulvio Bianconi to seek and experiment with new techniques for working glass, also reworking ancient traditions.
The piece is part of Giustini / Stagetti Italian Modern Design collection and represents the Gallery’s research on historical Murano glass and manufactures.

Deformazione ottico-dinamica di un cubo in una sfera, Serie a Punti B, iconic piece designed by Enzo Mari between 1959 and 1963 for Danese, Milano.
The piece, part of Giustini / Stagetti Italian Modern Design collection, can be considered characteristic of his work, internationally established among the most representative of Italian design with the continuous research and experimentation of new shapes and meanings of the product, also in contrast with the traditional patterns of industrial design.

Aluminum Chair (2020) designed by Francesco Faccin exclusively for our Gallery and part of Anonimo Contemporaneo collection.
The project is focused on the chair in its Italian popular declination: the anonymous object par excellence.
La Romanella is the Roman version of this category and represents a kind of object that has always existed and
has evolved over time in an infinite range of variant formal solutions.
Anonimo Contemporaneo has come into being with the aim of intervening on a received original, varying its characteristic without altering
its fundamental concept, thereby demonstrating that it is possible to revisit the same idea infinite times, while never repeating one’s self.

This wall lamp, mod. 126 designed by Vittoriano Viganò and produced by Arteluce in the 50s, is representative of the aesthetics of the designer’s work that with his design imprint is considered one of the most important Italian exponent of the current “brutalism”. Throughout his career he has dealt with various areas: from industrial design to architecture, from interior design to urban and landscape planning.
This wall lamp, which embodies elegance and versatility through this aluminum cone that projects and diffuses light, is part of Giustini / Stagetti Italian Modern Design collection.

Silver centerpiece designed in 1930 ca. by the prestigious silversmith Arrigo Finzi inspired by the famous futurist architect Antonio Sant'Elia.
The piece, part of Giustini / Stagetti Italian Modern Design collection, represents the work of one of the most interesting and original Italian silversmiths of the first half of the 20th century.

In 1909 the young Arrigo Finzi made the acquaintance of Antonio Sant'Elia and a friendship was established between the two: Finzi, wanting to start a production of modern silver, ask the architect Sant'Elia to design objects characterized by new and essential lines. Unfortunately, due to the war and the architect's death, production never started but when Arrigo Finzi founded his company in 1919, the first works were inspired by the designs of Sant’Elia.

Part of the ‘Funambolo’ collection, this Ceiling / Wall lamp (2019) designed by Giacomo Moor exclusively for our Gallery is inspired by the poetic imagery of acrobats who stand out against the horizon, creating pure and essential lines. The extreme formal simplicity of the lamp hides a complex investigation to remove the visible technical elements: taking the link between form and function to the extreme results.

18/01/2021

Vetrified ceramic sculptures n. 10 designed by Italian artist Enzo Cucchi in 2015 and part of a corpus of ceramic sculptures now on view in our Gallery layout.

Considered the most visionary artist among exponents of the neoespressionistic painting current “Transavanguardia”, in the 1980s Enzo Cucchi became internationally renowned.
Cucchi sees painting as a means of bringing together a number of forms, concepts, and materials, using the invasive expression of gesture, through which the canvas becomes a receptacle of images and thoughts, the vehicles of a discourse frayed into a thousand suspensions. The presence of disparate symbols, of a classical or dreamlike matrix, torn from the present or memory, overlap and interrelate in the chromatic fabric from which they appear to emerge. The loss of spatial-temporal coordinates and the continuous incursion into a cultural territory and that of the emotions coincides with an unruly use of colours thickened and then streaked, violent and then sketchy and with a wide range of artistic materials and techniques, such as painting, drawing, engraving, mosaic, bronze and ceramics.
