From 2 July - 8 September 2013 Castel Sant’Angelo reopens its doors during the warm summer nights to give both Romans and tourists a special visit to this extraordinary and suggestive monument.

In addition to visiting the entire monument, free guided tours are available in Italian, English, French and Spanish to the areas normally closed to the public: the Passetto di Borgo, the historical prisons and Clement VII’s bathroom. From 13 June the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma summer season starts in the splendid archaeological complex of the Caracalla Baths. The grand parterre with its 3.500 seats and new areas inside as the Palestra Orientale host opera, symphony music, ballets and proses, with the scope, pursued already for some years by the artistic director, to conciliate a public offering with sought-after shows. The programme therefore acquires an innovative form, broadening the borders of tradition, without ever abandoning the excellence of the production.
For the debut, until 16 June, " Dido and Aeneas" by Henry Purcell, the opera inspired by the fourth book of Eneide by Virgilio, orchestra direction Jonathan Webb and production Chiara Muti.
On stage, from 2 until 7 August, Giovanni Verga's popular Sicily in "Cavalleria Rusticana" by Pietro Mascagni conducted by Maestro Gaetano d'Espinosa and production by Pier Luigi Pizzi. Pizzi is also the producer for the setting of "Tosca" by Giacomo Puccini, orchestra direction Maestro Renato Palumbo (1 - 6 August).
A long-awaited come-back for the Roman star performer Gigi Proietti in a cracking monologue full of irony and stinging reflections on today's society (6 and 7 July).
For the Ballet part, a tribute to the Choreographer who recently passed away, Roland Petit, with two great classics by Georges Bizet , "L'Arlésienne" and la "Carmen", directed by Master Andriy Yurkevich and interpreted by étoile Eleonora Abbagnato.
The habitual meeting with Roberto Bolle, this year placed side by side with the dancers of the American Ballet Theatre, one of the principal dance companies in the world (21 and 22 July).
25 July exceptional evening with the most famous soundtracks ever written for cinema which will play again among the "bastions" of Caracalla under the baton of Ennio Morricone who conducts the Choir of the teatro dell'Opera di Roma.

In the fifteenth century. Montolmo took place in the then (and now already Pausola Corridonia) a horse race called the ring of Margutta, as it is handed down by historians of the time. It was the name given to a crude "Saracen" by the female form that is hoisted into place at fairs and markets. The carousel is re-enacted among the city districts (Porta Molino, Port Sejanus, Portarella, Santa Croce, San Donato, Colbuccaro) on the first Sunday of September each year, preceded by a procession of about 500 people in costume. http://contesadellamargutta.jimdo.com/
