Deeply in tune with the darkness and desolation of the furious mafia war, the native of Palermo Fabio Sgroi (b. 1965) begins to photograph the underground punk scene of the city. Over a two-year period, he chronicled local anarchists, radicals and drunks while also playing in a punk band called MG. He fell into photography without a plan, and then joined Letizia and Franco at L’Ora in 1986 when the punk scene began to calm down. Although Sgroi was only 20 years old when he joined the newspaper, this made him the perfect person to document the growing student movement, protests, occupations and dynamic cultural changes that hit the city at the time.
