Old scrap metal becomes art
Bolts, connecting rods, springs, pistons, rings and spark plugs are transformed into unique sculptures by Sicilian artist Salvo Vella, alias Saweldart. metal parts, which usually find a place in landfills and represent a waste disposal problem, come back to life after being cleaned, selected and assembled with taste and refinement by the Sicilian artist, until they take shape and turn into a harmonious, incredibly fluid, almost soft work of contemporary art. Able to amaze, to express an overwhelming force, to convey a clear concept of modernity and creativity with immediate impact. Salvo Vella, self-taught, experiments with the art of creative recycling and his works are much appreciated, so much so that they were exhibited at the Florence Biennale. His signature features include animals made from spare parts that almost disappear from view as a whole, becoming one with the sculpture. His works also include references to the imaginary, such as humanoid representations capable of expressing feeling, warmth and emotion despite the cold, aseptic, metallic and inanimate material from which they are made. And this is precisely the strength of Salvo Vella's art: giving life to something inanimate. Recovering waste and dressing it with dignity. Making beautiful, artistic and above all unique what is usually considered rubbish, a pile of scrap metal. Each work, in fact, is a unique piece, the result of hours of selection, study and work.
