A sustainability dilemma we don’t have an answer to.

“Buy less” is probably some of the best advice fashion has received.

Buy fewer clothes. Consume less. Choose consciously.

But then what happens to our crafts people ? Admiring a craft doesn’t pay the person who makes it. An artisan doesn’t earn because we share their story.

They earn when someone chooses to buy what they make.

So if we all genuinely bought less what happens to the people whose livelihoods depend on making?

Can we buy less, but buy with more intention?

Can we choose one garment we absolutely love instead of five we’re mildly excited about?

Can we buy something we’ll wear 50 times instead of something we’ll forget about in six months?

Can we care about who made it, not just how it looks?

Because perhaps conscious consumption isn’t about never buying. Perhaps it’s about making our purchases count.

And perhaps supporting handmade isn’t about consuming more. It’s about creating demand for things worth making.

Somewhere between “buy less” and “support handmade” lies a much more complicated conversation about consumption livelihoods craft and what we’re actually choosing to value.

Can “buy less” and “support handmade” truly coexist?

From heatwaves to floods the year has been tough on us

Climate change is no longer a distant warning it’s part of our everyday lives.

While no single action can solve this crisis every small choice matters. At World of Ikat one of those choices is upcycling.

Instead of sending beautiful handwoven fabric scraps to landfill our women artisans transform them into everyday essentials.

It’s a small step and thousands of small steps create meaningful change

Less waste. More purpose. A little more hope for the planet. 🌍💚

Our Crafts are centuries old the products don’t need to be

If future generations stop wearing traditional clothing…

How do we ensure our textile heritage survives?

Maybe the answer isn’t asking people to change.

Maybe it’s allowing our crafts to become part of everyday life.

This is our interpretation of what Indian heritage can look like in a contemporary world.

Is this the future of Indian textiles? Or should they remain in their traditional form?

Would you carry Indian craft if it looked like this?

👇 We’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts.

A garment is only as ethical as the story behind it

Ethical fashion doesn’t stop at fair wages.

At World of Ikat true impact means making sure every artisan is supported, secure and ready to thrive.

This is how we invest in our women

• Financial stability: Fair wages + Provident Fund for future security

• Growth: Ongoing skill development and hands-on training

• Care: Health insurance and a deeply respectful, supportive workplace

As a social enterprise we are on a mission to make fashion that feels as good to make as it does to wear. 🌿🧵
