SARLA
(Sarjapura Artist’s Residency @ Latha’s)
● SARLA is a home for artists, studio space for art practitioners, an exhibition space and art center for children, situated in the outskirts of Bangalore, Sarjapura.
● SARLA is an art community which organizes exhibitions, offers studio spaces, hosts artist residencies and facilitates workshops for children.
● SARLA is housed in a eco-conscious sustainable building with a spacious courtyard and surrounding garden, 5 bedrooms, a common kitchen and dining area with shared studio spaces; while originally built for residence it now houses an art community. .
SARLA as a Collective:
● SARLA is a Artist collective space made possible by three women resident artists, Nancy Popp, Seema Jain and Advithi Emmi, along with Sarjapura Curries and Bengaluru Artists Residency One - BAR1
● The core collective is supported by various local artists and art enthusiasts, to make a neighborhood Art Space possible in Sarjapura.
SARLA as a Studio Space:
● Resident Artists will have individual rooms with attached bathrooms.
● Two common halls can be used for the making of 2 dimensional artworks, whereas the garden and portico can be used for 3 dimensional artworks.
● Space is available at nearby Sarjapura Curries Farm for artists who propose garden- related projects, larger installations, and land art.
● A well-equipped kitchen setup is available for artists who are working on food and culinary related projects.
SARLA as a Exhibition Space:
● 1500 sq feet of indoor exhibition space is provided with outdoor courtyard and portico space for larger sculptures and installation works.
● The sprawling garden is available for making and displaying installations, wood works and sculptures.
Artist in Residency at SARLA:
● SARLA will invite artists-in-residence in collaboration with Bangalore Artist Residency-BAR1 with Sarjapura Curries.
● Residency durations range from a minimum of 3 weeks to a maximum of 3 months.
Outreach at SARLA:
● SARLA will conduct art workshops, exhibitions, talks and film screenings on a regular basis to build awareness about arts and culture, and outreach to the community, the neighborhood and the school children.
● Regular Art classes(Pottery, clay modeling, drawing and painting) will be conducted regularly.
We take immense pleasure in announcing and opening of SARLA, with the vision of building an alternate art space in Sarjapura involving artists who are working and residing around the neighborhood. Together SARLA and it’s supporters wil expand the possibilities for art for artists, locals and learners.
