As part of my DAAD Fellowship, I’ll be giving an artist talk about Public Movement — the works, ideas and encounters that shaped our practice over the years.
I’m especially happy that Joanna Warsza will be joining me. 17 years ago, together with Omer Krieger (co-founder of Public Movement), we made Spring in Warsaw — a work that, in many ways, gave the group some of its early momentum, boldness and humor, and became an important part of its identity.
It feels wonderful to meet again in Berlin, and to look back — and forward — together.

15th Gwangju Bienniale | Public Movement | DEMO
Can't wait to see it all coming together at the Democracy Square.

Public Movement presents a lexicon of public choreographies as they are performed by the state and its citizens, and the encounter between the two. Echoing Gwangju’s political heritage as the birthplace of Korean democracy, Public Movement has established a new local cell of performers to explore the question: How do we become a social body?

Many months and many people have been working together to make it happen. First and foremost our collaborators at the Chosun University: Choi Ji Eun, Gang Na Yeon, Kim Min Kyung, Moon Ju Hyeon, Moon Kyoung Hyoun, Park Eun Joo, Sim Ye Yeong. They will activate DEMO every Friday at 18:00 for the next 3 months.

מאד שמחים לחזור לחומר הזה ״תנועה ציבורית משתמשת בפורמט התדרוך כמתודולוגיה להעברת מידע, שבאמצעותה המחקר הופך לפעולה. בשורשה עומדת האפשרות שעל מנת להשתמש באמנות ככלי פוליטי, סוכן הפועל בשטח יתפקד כסוכן כפול.״

The declaration of the State of Israel took place in the Tel Aviv Museum of Art in May 1948. These two constructs, the Museum and the Nation-State, emerged in the wake of modernity, by the marriage of military and culture.

Debriefing Session is a one-on-one meeting with a Public Movement Agent staged in a secret room within KW, Berlin. During this private encounter, the agent unfolds Public Movement’s research about modern art made in Palestine before 1948, its absence from the Israeli narrative, and its status within the Palestinian Diaspora.

The scripted session investigates the ways information travels, it explores notions of normalization, institutional memory, and national identity.

שגרת חירום היא תרגיל פרפורמטיבי המפעיל בריתות גופניות שנוצרות בין אזרחים במצבים של סכנה ואסון. זו זירה להתנסות ציבורית המבוססת על צורות שונות של פינוי והתפנות. יחד עם הצופים, ההופכים למשתתפים, חמישה מחברי תנועה ציבורית מבצעים כוריאוגרפיות של חמלה, משטור, דאגה ופינוי, וכך בוחנים מחדש אופנים בהם המדינה נוגעת ומניעה את תושביה.
