The Gallery Talk | "As Soon as the War Is Over"

This exhibition explores war not only as a historical event, but as a deeply human experience. Through stories from the ancient world, it raises questions that remain with us still.

What does victory really mean, and who gets to define it? The Battle of Kadesh challenges our understanding of triumph. Assyrian deportation policies draw attention to those displaced by conquest. The story of the Trojan War reveals grief and suffering on all sides, while Roman imperial proclamations invite us to reflect on the relationship between war and peace.

Join curator Dr. Yigal Bloch for a gallery talk exploring ancient conflicts, their consequences, and their echoes in our own time.

Happy Shavuot 🌾

The museum will be closed for the holiday.
We look forward to welcoming you back immediately after.

On the ancient coin of Agrippa I, three wheat stalks mark the reverse — a small, durable image of harvest and renewal. We think that’s a good reason to visit a museum.

Exhibitions, guided tours, and family programs await you on the other side of the holiday.

See you soon.

Dear friends,
Thousands of visitors have already stood transfixed before the powerful work of Eitan Rozenzweig z"l — a gifted young artist who fell fighting in Gaza.

Kuma is a breathtaking scroll, 3.6 meters long, drawn in ink in the tradition of a visual Torah — weaving together quotations and imagery from Jewish sources and the ancient Near East. In this work, Eitan invites us on a journey through layers of identity, meaning, and the deepest human questions.

Two years ago, you believed in this vision — and together we created something extraordinary. The Kuma exhibition was not simply art. It was a living bridge between past and present. Thousands of visitors were moved, learned, and felt themselves part of a larger story.

Now we have a rare opportunity to make that moment permanent.
We want to create a gallery for Eitan's scroll — a space of inspiration, meaning, and connection for generations to come. But we cannot do it without you.

The timeline is tight and the need is real. To secure the space in time, we need you now. Every gift — at any level — brings us closer to the goal and ensures that the light you helped kindle will keep shining, at a moment when we need it more than ever.

Donate now and become part of a story that lives on.

You’ve probably crossed the museum’s entrance plaza without ever stopping beside one quiet stone.

The museum’s cornerstone carries a Kaddish written by the museum’s founder, Dr. Elie Borowski, alongside the names of his family members murdered in the Shoah. It is a private, hushed testimony to a grief that has no words — and to a memory etched in for good.

Born in Warsaw in 1913, Borowski survived the war after fighting the N***s with the Polish Brigade of the French Army. Out of that loss grew a conviction that shaped the rest of his life: to gather, to preserve, and to tell the story of humanity — to build a place where people and cultures meet through the history they share.

In his own words:
“The future of humanity lies in the roots of its past. Only by understanding history can we build a better future together.”

Remembering, and refusing to forget, the six million murdered in the Shoah. 🕯️

The team at Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem is deeply moved by the return of the hostages after more than two years in Hamas captivity.

We are grateful to the IDF soldiers and to all the people of Israel who united in prayer, faith, and hope.

We pray for the safe return of all those still missing, healing for the wounded, and peace and security for Israel. 🇮🇱
