Mission statement: A collaborative artistic research project, opening a new critical space within which to create/produce a platform for public awareness for art and criticism, through the presentation of contemporary art practice / dialogue, public discussions, and publications with unorthodox interventions, in order to explore what a great critical art forum could be for art and for the public in the Midlands.

Celebrate Bealtaine in Roscrea with us on Saturday next 30 May with a special screening of Rootstock The making of The School of Hibernia (after Raphael) 2024. The documentary film directed by Therry Rudin that follows the Irish feminist art collective Na Cailleacha as they create a large-scale artistic project titled "The School of Hibernia”. It shows the artists as they embark on a bold artistic experiment: reimagining Raphael’s renowned composition entirely through the presence and perspective of women. In their recreation, the male figures of the original painting are replaced by leading Irish women from a range of disciplines, while Raphael’s spatial design and narrative structure remain faithfully intact. The result is a powerful re-enactment that challenges historical viewpoints and asserts a contemporary female vision at a time when women’s rights remain under pressure. The music for the work was composed by the accomplished jazz pianist, saxophonist, lyricist and arranger, Carole Nelson. The film will be followed by Therry Rudin and Carole Nelson in conversation.
Time & Date: Saturday 30 May 3pm-5pm Venue: The Black Mills Roscrea

Culture Night in Damer House Gallery

On Culture Night, Friday 19th September, Damer House Gallery and Roscrea Community Action Group came together to celebrate Culture Night in Damer House. The evening featured Beyond The Frame, with artists Áine Ryan and Jenny Fox. Through a selection of their works, both artists presented the themes that inspire their practice, followed by a facilitated discussion that offered audiences a deeper understanding of their approaches and artistic journeys.
This was followed by Roscrea Community Action Group’s official launch of the town’s new website, visitroscrea.ie. Designed as a user-friendly hub for residents, businesses, and visitors, the website provides a comprehensive local directory, school and club listings, details on amenities, local services, and upcoming events. Visitors can also explore Roscrea’s rich historical heritage online.
