I suspect I always have, even before I knew that was what I was doing. What I didn't expect was how the healing would travel — how a painting made from my own experience could reach someone else's, and hold it. People have stood in front of my work and told me they felt understood. That they recognised something in the figure on the canvas that they had never quite found words for themselves.
