Our members enjoyed a complimentary tour of the woollen mills in Avoca today.
A huge thank you to Avoca for so kindly extending the invitation to us. I think I speak for everyone when I say we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It was both fascinating and informative, and we would highly recommend a visit and taking the tour.
With the mill dating back to 1723, it was fantastic to learn about its rich history and to see that it is still thriving today in our neighbouring village.
Our tour guide was brilliant; so knowledgeable, engaging and full of interesting information.
It really brought the history of the mill to life.
It was also great to see so many of our members come along and enjoy the day.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and a special thank you once again to Avoca for a wonderful experience!

We are very sorry to hear of the passing of Andy Rossiter, Tinahely.
In September last year I had the pleasure of meeting & interviewing Andy about the Dairy & Milk Runs in Aughrim for our Newsletters.
Andy was more than happy to chat & share his memories. We had the tea in D’lish and Andy filled me in on a time gone by which we remembered with great fondness, despite the hardships of the job.
We will always be grateful to Andy for his contribution.
Thank you to Eugene Stapleton for putting us in touch.
Condolences to Andy’s family & friends. RIP.

Aughrim & District Historical Society will be displaying at the Pavilion in Aughrim for the Craic in the Granite Festival from 12.30 to 3pm, tomorrow (Sat 25th)
We will have a slide show of photographs running along with our Newsletters on sale & if anyone wishes to become a member they can sign up with us tomorrow also.

Update: Maureen & Sonny have been in touch with an update on the 3 missing names.

Maureen identified; Katherine Kinsella neé Brennan from Parade Ground in Arklow is the fiddle player in the front row.
And Sonny identified; Matt Sharpe and possibly Mark Canavan.

Anyone know what year?

The ladies in the photograph shared last week have been identified as Jane & Maureen Kennedy in the centre.
Jane on the left & Maureen on the right.
Bridie Sheridan & her sister (later Mrs. Dalton) are the other two ladies. We think the photo was taken around the 1920’s.

Take a look at this fab picture that we received of Owen Sheridans shop in Aughrim.
For those of us that don’t remember, this shop was across from Lawless Hotel, to the left beside Bridge House.
Does anybody recognise the ladies in the photo or give a guess at what year it might be?
