【Featured Collections📚】Why I Am Not A Painter & Of the Film (by Christopher Doyle)
Most people know Christopher Doyle best for his cinematography. His fluid, unconventional visual style has breathed life into countless films, leaving an unmistakable mark across world cinema. Beyond the camera, Doyle has long been devoted to collage art, sourcing images from everyday life to explore the endless possibilities of piecing visuals together.
In 2018, Doyle released a two-volume set of essays and photo collections, Why I Am Not a Painter and Of the Film. The set captures his philosophical musings on film aesthetics and creative process, alongside behind-the-scenes photographs and imaginative collage work. Celebrated for its artistic depth and exceptional layout, the publication was honoured with the Publishing Award (Art & Design) at the 2019 Hong Kong Publishing Biennial Awards.
The Arts Information Centre is currently featuring Why I Am Not a Painter and Of the Film, which are open for public reading. We invite everyone to explore Christopher Doyle’s thoughts as an artist through his writings and discover the true meaning behind why he is not a painter.
