📌 Μήνυμα Υπουργού Εξωτερικών, Γιώργου Γεραπετρίτη, για την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ελληνικής Γλώσσας (09.02.2026)

Με αίσθημα ευθύνης και υπερηφάνεια τιμούμε, επίσημα, για πρώτη φορά φέτος, στις 9 Φεβρουαρίου, την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ελληνικής Γλώσσας. Η απόφαση ανακήρυξής της υιοθετήθηκε και επικυρώθηκε πανηγυρικά στην 43η Γενική Διάσκεψη της UNESCO και αποτελεί ιστορική αναγνώριση της γλώσσας που υπήρξε λίκνο του παγκόσμιου πολιτισμού. Πλέον, η ελληνική γλώσσα θα εορτάζεται σε όλο τον κόσμο, την ημέρα που τιμούμε τον εθνικό μας ποιητή Διονύσιο Σολωμό.

Η ελληνική γλώσσα εκτείνεται σε περισσότερα από τρεις χιλιάδες έτη αδιάλειπτης γραπτής και προφορικής χρήσης, κατά την οποία έθεσε τις βάσεις και διαμόρφωσε θεμελιώδεις έννοιες της φιλοσοφίας, της δημοκρατίας, του δικαίου, της επιστήμης και της τεχνολογίας. Η ορολογία ελληνικής προέλευσης εξακολουθεί να αποτελεί το κατ’ εξοχήν λεξιλόγιο της διεθνούς επιστημονικής και ακαδημαϊκής κοινότητας, επιβεβαιώνοντας το νοηματικό βάθος και το οικουμενικό εύρος της επιρροής της.

Η ελληνική γλώσσα, ως φορέας ταυτότητας, γνώσης, παραδόσεων και αξιών, συνδέει όλες τις φάσεις της μακράς ιστορίας του Ελληνισμού. Ξεκινώντας από τα ομηρικά έπη, τη φιλοσοφία του Σωκράτη, του Αριστοτέλη και του Πλάτωνα, και περνώντας μέσα από την Καινή Διαθήκη, έφτασε στη σύγχρονη εποχή των νομπελιστών μας ποιητών, Σεφέρη και Ελύτη.

Η ελληνική γλώσσα αποτελεί το μέσο με το οποίο εμείς οι Έλληνες εκφράζουμε τόσο θετικές όσο και αρνητικές έννοιες, οι οποίες με το πέρασμα του χρόνου διαδόθηκαν σε όλο τον κόσμο, υιοθετήθηκαν από άλλους λαούς και πλέον είναι κατανοητές σε ολόκληρη την ανθρωπότητα. Οι θετικοί συνειρμοί που κάνουμε οι Έλληνες όταν ακούμε ή διαβάζουμε λέξεις όπως παράδεισος, άγγελος, φιλανθρωπία, αρμονία, συμμετρία, ευφορία, χάρισμα, μελωδία, μουσική και αντίθετα οι αρνητικοί συνειρμοί που συνοδεύουν λέξεις όπως χάος, αγωνία, τυραννία, τραγωδία, φοβία, τραύμα, πανδημία, έχουν λάβει παγκόσμια εμβέλεια.

Η ελληνική γλώσσα, μας βοηθά να βάλουμε τις ιδέες και τις σκέψεις για τον κόσμο γύρω μας σε τάξη – τον μικρόκοσμο και τον μακρόκοσμο, από τα άτομα ως τα πλανητικά συστήματα-, στο χώρο και στο χρόνο, χωρίζοντάς τες σε κατηγορίες, σε περιόδους, σε ζώνες, σε καταλόγους, σε συστήματα, μετρώντας τες με αριθμητική, με μαθηματικά και αναλύοντάς τες με στατιστικές μεθόδους, με υπολογιστικά προγράμματα, με εργαλεία τεχνολογίας.

Η γλώσσα μας, μας ωθεί να δημιουργήσουμε πρότυπα, να αντιστρατευτούμε τα στερεότυπα, να επιδιώξουμε να μοιάσουμε σε αρχέτυπα. Μας χάρισε τα εργαλεία της λογικής, της ανάλυσης, της σύνθεσης, της θεωρίας, της στρατηγικής, της πρόγνωσης, ώστε να δημιουργήσουμε βάσεις και αξιώματα στη σκέψη μας, να χρησιμοποιούμε τόσο λογικά κριτήρια όσο και τη δύναμη της φαντασίας μας για να λύνουμε προβλήματα, αινίγματα και μυστήρια.

Μας βοηθάει να αποτυπώσουμε τα συναισθήματά μας, το πάθος, τον ζήλο, τον ενθουσιασμό. Να εκφράζουμε το δέος μας όταν αντικρίζουμε στον ουρανό τους γαλαξίες και τα αστέρια ή παρατηρούμε ένα κοσμικό φαινόμενο, όπως μια έκλειψη ηλίου.

Με ελληνικές λέξεις περιγράφονται, επίσης, η ύβρις και η νέμεσις που οδηγούν τους ήρωες και ταυτόχρονα τους θεατές του αρχαίου δράματος στην αριστοτέλεια κάθαρση.

Μας βοηθάει ακόμα να μιλήσουμε για ό,τι μας είναι απαραίτητο για την επιβίωσή μας: το οξυγόνο, την ατμόσφαιρα, το οικοσύστημα, τους ωκεανούς και την προστασία τους, την οικολογία, την αντιμετώπιση της παγκόσμιας πρόκλησης της κλιματικής κρίσης που απειλεί να φέρει την καταστροφή.

Εξάλλου, όροι που χρησιμοποιούμε στη σύγχρονη εποχή για ζητήματα που απασχολούν την ανθρωπότητα, αποδίδονται ευρέως με όρους ελληνικούς, όπως οι υβριδικές απειλές, τα κρυπτονομίσματα, και η ηθική χρήση της τεχνητής νοημοσύνης.

Όταν επιδιώκουμε να οικοδομήσουμε συνέργειες μεταξύ κρατών, απανταχού στον κόσμο, ο διάλογος και η διπλωματία είναι τα εφόδιά μας. Και όταν επιζητούμε να πείσουμε τον συνομιλητή μας για τη ορθότητα των επιχειρημάτων μας χρησιμοποιούμε το τρίπτυχο λόγος – ήθος – πάθος, τους τρεις πυλώνες της ρητορικής πειθούς στην αρχαία Ελλάδα.

Με την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ελληνικής Γλώσσας, τιμούμε τη γλώσσα που μας έδωσε όχι μόνο τις λέξεις, αλλά και τις έννοιες πάνω στις οποίες χτίστηκε η κοινή μας αντίληψη για τον κόσμο και τον άνθρωπο. Η γλώσσα μας είναι η ψυχή μας. Και αυτή την ψυχή θα κρατήσουμε αναλλοίωτη στους αιώνες.

Η 9η Φεβρουαρίου δεν είναι μόνο η παγκόσμια ημέρα της ελληνικής γλώσσας. Είναι η παγκόσμια ημέρα της Ελλάδας.
