Cretan Landscape Paintings Hi, my name is Frans van Vlerken. My hobbies are painting and writting and here I am sharing my paintings.

In 1977, I fell in love with Crete during my 1st 6 months stay.
6 years later I settled permanently in Makrialos and became a farmer.

Kalispera my dear followers and kalo mina.
Here is a painting of the Langada beach I want to share with you.
Its a few km to the east of Makrialos, about 1 km long and with very little development. No taverna, no beach bars. Wich is a rarity on Crete. I guess it wont take long before we can see some changes there.

This one is from the beautifull island of Gavdos again.
Imagine yourself standing on the highest spot of the island, at the lighthouse, lets say on 350m altitude, and then you face north.
The little island Gavdopoulo is not habited. On the horizon Crete, ofcourse.

Hi, my dear friends and followers. Today I want to share two more paintings with you. This one is from the Sarakiniko beach area on Gavdos. Somebody told me that they are moving all the time.
On this scene the dunes had killed some trees. It looked to me like a bizarre graveyard for trees.

And this one is based on a scene at Xerokambos - east Crete.
Famous for its strange purple, reddish soil. That means for those who know to find Xerokambos.
A little detail, on the middle of the painting, right : a construction site. A prove of that there is also some human activity on this planet.

Goodday, my dear friends and followers. Today I want to share with you two paintings from the beautifull island of Karpathos.
It is not such a big journey from where I live. So when an old friend in a campervan - Victor - came to see me, we said : Lets go to Karpathos. For him this was the first time. For me the fourth.
But my last visit, I must - not voluntary - admit, was 40 years ago.
Olymbos was then a mountain village in the north part of the island, with children running in the street, goats on the fields and bread was baked in the local ovens. Last December we found it deserted.
Its still very picturesque, but ... well... lets leave it till here.

Kalispera my dear friends and followers,
This one is from the south east coast of Crete. Lutros is one of the most picturesque places on Crete. A few miles west of Chora Sfakion it's only atainable by foot or by boat.

Now here I have for you a painting that's a bit different as the rest. Where a normal landscape activates the memory and the fantasy, this one is also asking you a question.
The rock on the foreground is an existing rock on the road from Makrialos to Ag Stefanos, but what about this floating person in the air? Will he crasch down on earth or will he have a superb flight over the beaches down by the coast?
What do you think? Anyway I think he looks light enough.

Kalspera my dear friends and followers and hello to the great unknown. Today I want to share with you 2 of my paintings that make out the essence of my work of the last year.
I have been painting Crete's nature, yes ... untouched by human hand. One might say : like it was 10.000 years ago, or 200.000 years ( mountains don't move quickly ).
On the other hand , against this power, I like that in my work also the human species plays a roll.
