Nice run down the M6 with our sprightly 45 year old CMS Cumberland Leyland National (KHH378W) - appropriately passing Leyland, though it was built at Leyland’s National bus plant at Lillyhall (Workington). 12.7.2026

A quick stop at ‘Forton’ Services this morning en route to the Leyland Open Day with our CMS Cumberland National 2, KHH378W - named ‘Kenneth Hargreaves’.

The 20m high "space-age" Pennine Tower has dominated the M6 motorway at Forton Services (now Lancaster services) since it opened in a1965. This iconic, grade 2 listed structure is a unique example of the futuristic image created with the construction of the motorways.

It comprised a restaurant and observation deck with magnificent views across Morecambe Bay to the Lake District. Sadly, the tower closed to the public out in 1989 due up fire regulations.
