Starting in late August, Christine Baxter Sculpture will be offering a series of 3-day Autumn courses (either residential or non-residential) in MIXED SCULPTURE.

This 3-day course has been designed as a mini foundation course in sculpture, where you will learn a range of different techniques and create three pieces you can take home with you:

Day 1 – Using clay, and making a portrait sculpture to be fired in the kiln.
Day 2 – Creating with plaster, and making an animal sculpture.
Day 3 – Welding, and creating a welded steel form as a base for your portrait sculpture.

Courses will be held at our artist studios at Court Robert Arts in Raglan, SE Wales, which is a 25-minute drive from Newport, the nearest mainline railway station.

Alex Brown Painter and Christine Baxter Sculpture are delighted to be currently exhibiting at the Albany Gallery alongside artist Colin Carruthers until 20th July, and to be featured in this article by View Mags about upcoming art shows in Cardiff.

"An institution of the arts, Albany Gallery has played an important role in Roath’s history since the 1960s. To soak up some of that authentic Roath flavour, you can catch Alex Brown Painter and Colin Carruthers, with sculpture by Christine Baxter, until the 20 July 2024.

The summer schedule at the Albany Gallery Gallery runs from 26 July to 7 September, as a changing exhibition of over 30 popular artists in a variety of styles and mediums. Almost a third of those taking part are new to the gallery, including Lucy Corbett and Tracy Patterson. 13 September to 5 October sees Tim Fudge and Carolyn Genders, and Mary Jolley and Claire Lovell exhibiting from 11 October to 2 November."

If you have ever been inspired to develop your creative talents and branch into the world of sculpture, this course is just right for you. Tailored to help each individual at their own strengths and skills, you'll be pushed towards your best artistic self.

Courses will be held at our artist studios at Court Robert Arts in Raglan, SE Wales, which is a 25-minute drive from Newport, the nearest mainline railway station.

Each 3-day course comes with 5 rooms available (double or twin) and a maximum of 8 students (including both residency and nonresidency students).

On Tuesday, we had a lovely visit from members of U3A Gilwern's Art Group. We gave them a private tour of our studios and gallery, then served them tea and cake in the garden.

Luckily, the sun held out all afternoon! A very enjoyable time, and even our 'Guards Club Luncheon Cake' turned out really well - a recipe from Cookery of England by Elizabeth Ayrton.

The U3A Gilwern Art Group meet twice monthly:

"We are all at different levels, from absolute beginners to those who have exhibited, and this mix of abilities gives each of us the opportunity to learn about and to discuss painting and drawing. Some members prefer drawing with charcoal and others with pencils. Some of us prefer watercolours and others like pastels or acrylics. It is always interesting to see the different styles and techniques and to chat over a cup of tea."

We're happy to share that our art studios, workspaces, gallery, courtyard and beautiful gardens are – once again – open to visitors!

OPEN STUDIO: Monday to Friday 10-4, plus weekends by appointment. We are in Raglan, Monmouthshire, SE Wales. Nearest big town is Newport, which is a 20-minute drive away.

Come and take a look around ... we have original paintings by Alex Brown and classic sculptures for garden and home by Christine Baxter, available to purchase. We will also be exhibiting work by other fine artists, and offering authentic fine arts workshops this Autumn!
