TOMORROW!! LAST CHANCE TO SIGN UP👇

Understanding your Data | SPI workshop

This workshop will look at how to access your social media analytics, how to report them to High Life Highland and how your museum can use this information to further develop your social media strategies.

HighLife Highland's Service Level Agreement with Highland Museums requires quarterly reporting on all online 'hits'. In recent years this has caused both confusion and inaccurate reporting. This workshop has been specifically designed to clarify what information is being requested and to help museums gain the skills to accurately report on their online data. It will also explore the benefits of conducting such audits in terms of building social media strategies and campaigns to help streamline your work in this area.

Training will be delivered by Siobhan Beatson (Manager/Curator at Ullapool Museum and MHH board member ) and Joe Derry Setch (Marketing and Communications Officer at MGS and MHH board member)

A workshop helping museums to understand their social media analytics and how to report and use their findings.

We're being taken over!!! Kiltearn Primary pupils will be taking over the museum this Saturday, 18th November, 11am - 2pm. They've been working hard to learn how to represent our museum and introduce visitors to the Picts and the carved stones we have on exhibition. They'll be greeting visitors and leading family activities including handling artefacts and playing Pictish games. Rumour has it one might even play our harp! We are pleased to support the pupils this way, and really hope you'll come along and let them show you what they've been learning.

A visit to West Highland Museum should be on everyone’s list

It's a time to celebrate Scottish museums, galleries & archives.

We are sharing an image of our wonderful museum building with you. It is a 19th century former British Linen Bank located in the heart of Fort William. The museum was founded 101 years ago and this building has been its home since the 1920s. In 1925 we hosted our famous Jacobite exhibition here and in 1926 we moved in permanently and have been here ever since!

Now exciting plans are afoot to expand the museum into adjacent buildings, developing our galleries to tell more local stories, and improving our learning, research and community spaces.

Historylinks Heritage Hub Appeal

We have secured £562,588 to start building the Heritage Hub, but we need help to raise £25,000 towards the fit-out (new chairs, tables, display cabinets etc). We have two weeks to raise this to help demonstrate to the Heritage Lottery that we can complete the project.

Donations large and small will be most welcome and can be made on-line at https://www.historylinks.org.uk/donate

👀New blog added to the Highland Pictish Trail website. It is the story of a symbol stone that was once the centre of its world. It stood beside a large broch on the far northern shore of mainland Pictland, a little to the west of Thurso, at a place today called Crosskirk.

Helen Mackay tells us the story of the Crosskirk stone. This is a story about a symbol stone that was the centre of its world. It stood beside a large broch on the far northern shore of mainland Pictland, a little to the west of Thurso, at a place today called Crosskirk. Until one day […]

Great news from Clyne Heritage Society (Brora)!

We are delighted to have been awarded a further £250,000 from the National Lottery heritage Fund towards our ambitious Old Clyne School redevelopment project.

The award comprises £50,000 towards the capital redevelopment of the school and £200,000 towards delivering its Activity Plan, for which there will be two full-time, 18-month long contract jobs created, in advance of moving towards the operation of the Society's business at their proposed new premises.

This is yet another resounding endorsement from a major funding body, to add to the previous 12, who have already given their support to the project, to the value of c£3m.

Great work from Strathnaver Museum!

In celebration of Highlands & Islands Climate Festival throughout September we have curated a series of posts exploring:
✍️how we approach environmental concerns and themes in the work we do;
✍️how we are working towards becoming more sustainable in our contribution towards a Net Zero Scotland; and
✍️sharing objects and environmental histories which aid our understanding of the past and the future.

Today from 7pm we are delighted to be launching Australian 'maker and remaker' Barry Smith's solo exhibition 'Betrayal and Loss'. Barry takes reclaimed materials and gives them new life in the form of beautiful and thought provoking artwork. His work reflects themes of social justice and the environment.

During Barry's time with us he will be leading a workshop with students from Farr High School exploring environmental themes to create their own piece of public artwork!
