This week we had the wonderful opportunity to speak to Zi Ling, a Bath based watercolour artist, about her practice.

Zi Ling began her artistic journey at the age of four, sketching farmers and factory workers with her father, and has used this grounding in etching and mark-making to inform her current practice.

You can read her full interview here: https://www.mallgalleries.org.uk/news/artist-spotlight-zi-ling-ri

As part of our consultancy services, we also try to get to know the artists we collaborate with. This week, we have asked award-winning artist Catherine Chambers the following question:

How has portrait commissioning shaped your perspective?

Catherine: ‘As a painter, working in the studio is often solitary so portraits commissions offer welcome company - I see them as a collaboration! It is always important for me to know the sitter inside and out, to best be able to portray them. With each commission comes new learning and I appreciate the development that happens on and off the canvas’.

Catherine was the latest recipient of The Huaicun Zhang Award at The Royal Society of British Artists Annual Exhibition 2025.

If you would like to find out more about Catherine’s work or our commissioning service, contact Martina: [email protected] | 0207 968 0963.
