Wincham Memorial Garden

We are trustees the Friends of Linnards Lane Memorial Garden, a not for profit charity, and we have been working since 2016 to deliver a war memorial for Wincham. Despite having lost 23 of its young men (for a population of less than 200) during WWI and WWII, Wincham do not have a Memorial Garden with a War Memorial.

The group has the support of the community and the Parish Council. Nonetheless, the Parish Council is prevented due to an act of Parliament from 1920s to contribute to the War Memorial. The aim is to deliver to Wincham on time for the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI the War Memorial and 1000 copies of a specially edited booklet which will be distributed for free.

What have we achieved so far: -Agreed designed. It will be constructed of a bradstone square faced buff walling block. The stone will be engraved with names inscribed onto it. There will also be two beautifully hand crafted carvings representing a poppy and a dove of peace. -Planning application approved: ref number 17/04470/FUL -Book design and content: The book will include a brief history of each fallen, and some artefacts from the children of Wincham Primary School -Raised 75% of the fund thanks to donations and a grant from Manchester Airport Community Trust Fund.
