Join us for a special Refugee Week screening of Culture vs War – a powerful Ukrainian documentary spotlighting artists who have traded studios for the front line.

🎥 Culture vs War tells the urgent, moving stories of painters, musicians, writers and performers who now stand shoulder to shoulder with soldiers and volunteers. These cultural figures fight not just for survival, but to preserve identity, memory, and meaning in the midst of war.

🕊️ With English subtitles and a running time of 85 minutes, the film invites reflection on freedom, democracy, and the role of art in times of violence.

🕰️ Doors open at 6.30pm | Film starts at 7.00pm

Mark your calendars for 27th June 2025 — you won’t want to miss this magical evening of live opera in the heart of Weymouth. Whether you’re a seasoned opera lover or just curious, this is your chance to experience powerful performances in an intimate, welcoming space.

There are 6 more rehearsals before the workshop day at the High Angle Battery on 19th July, still plenty of time to come and join in.

Something exciting is coming to Weymouth & Portland! Thanks to funding from Weymouth Town Council, support from We Are Weymouth, and the hard work of the MelWey Organising Committee, a brand-new community events website is now live in its soft launch phase:

What/When is more than just another listings site — it’s a live, interactive hub created to serve the heart of our local community. Designed for organisers, creatives, volunteers, and residents across Weymouth and Portland, it’s the place to share, discover, and support everything from beach cleans and local theatre to craft fairs and community fundraisers.

Information is scattered across social media, posters in shop windows, and word-of-mouth, despite the hard work and dedication of all our proactive community members. That makes it harder than it should be to find out what’s happening — or to reach new audiences.

• Share and promote your own activities
• Support grassroots, not-for-profit, and volunteer-led initiatives

Portland and Weymouth, the proud recipients of Dorset’s Towns of Culture 2025 title, have today unveiled the first cohort of successful applicants to receive funding through the REVEAL Launchpad Fund.

13 were selected from 69 proposals to deliver unique cultural activities across Portland and Weymouth.

The winning projects, which span film, art, poetry, performance, heritage, and food, will take place throughout spring and summer.
