Michael Loomes MBE.
On Sunday 16th April 2023, in accordance with his wishes, Michael was interred close to the Little Gem. The short service, attended by family & many friends from both Scouting and Rotary as was conducted by the Rev Keith Fenton (former Camp Warden at Waddecar).

Michael’s ashes were placed in the ground by David Thornton (Chair of trustees) beneath a small plaque of remembrance. Carl Hankinson, UK Chief Commissioner , said a few appropriate words, in his usual manner, before unveiling a bench outside the Museum dedicated to both Michael and his brother Ron. Those present were invited into the Museum where Carl unveiled a cabinet dedicated to Michael containing the three major awards he’d received throughout his life.
Brothers now reunited but never forgotten! ⚜️

The Little Gem is now OPEN – Since reopening our doors at the start of April we’ve had over 150 young people and leaders visit us. Many for the first time.

Our visitors have come, mainly from within the West Lancashire Scout County but we’ve had a visit by 4 members of Cheshire Scout County Camp Sites Service Team who were up working with the Waddecar Service Crew on a reciprocal visit to help and learn how we do things.

The Museum will now be open every Saturday between 10am and 4pm. Other times can be pre arranged via email: [email protected]

The Museum aka “The Little Gem” is now closed for stock taking and updating and we will be re-opening in the New Year and I will let you know when.

Since Michael Loomes has “gone home” we are updating all our literature and flyers showing just a contact email address of [email protected]. Either Jack McGrath or myself will respond to all enquiries and any requests to visit the museum.
