It's wonderful to see St Ives School sharing their Year 6 visit to King Edward Mine Museum after taking up our recommendation to invite Ben Clitherow into school the week beforehand.

Ben's outreach session provided a fantastic introduction to modern mining and engineering, and it linked perfectly with their visit to the museum, where pupils were able to discover Cornwall's rich mining heritage and see first-hand how tin was processed.

At King Edward Mine Museum, our educational visits are designed to bring learning to life through hands-on experiences that support a wide range of curriculum areas, including:
⛏️ Local History
⚙️ Engineering
🧪 STEM
🌍 Geology
🤖 Computing and Robotics
💼 Careers and aspirations

From exploring our unique historic tin processing mill and handling mining artefacts to taking part in engineering and robotics challenges, pupils leave with a real understanding of how Cornwall's mining past connects with the exciting future of engineering and critical minerals.

We love working with schools to create learning journeys like this, where classroom learning, outreach sessions and a museum visit all come together to give pupils a memorable and inspiring experience.

If you'd like to find out more about educational visits to King Edward Mine Museum, we'd be delighted to help you plan a curriculum-linked day tailored to your pupils. We can even recommend brilliant follow-on opportunities to make the experience even more impactful.

Volunteers and former mine workers have celebrated the 25th anniversary of King Edward Mine Museum at Troon with the unveiling of a restored mining headframe.

The 12m landmark was donated from a former mine near Blackwater, now stands proudly on the skyline once again - replacing a headframe that collapsed at the site in 1934: https://bbc.in/3RiNlf8
