We seek to advance knowledge and raise awareness of the historical town of Tavistock and surrounding area through our exhibitions, displays and artefacts to local residents and visitors.

Hi! Can you help? Tavistock Museum is in need of replenishing its second hand book store! Do you have any good quality books you can donate?

The Museum offers good condition second hand books for sale, by honest donation. The income it generates goes towards supporting your local Museum. 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚

All books gratefully received: Novels, cookery, gardening, children's books, history, the arts, Music, Hobby books, older books all welcome ... whether just one or two, or a carrier bag full - if they are in good condition, we are happy to accept them all! 😃👍

Please drop off at the Museum during our opening times; Tues - Sat, 11.00am - 3.00pm. If you can't make those times, just call, email or message the Museum and we can arrange a time to be there.

(Please do not leave books on the doorway doorstep)

REMINDER! 😃 ~ Diary Date! ~ 😃
‼️This Saturday ‼️
As an Area Centre, Tavistock Museum is looking forward to joining in with the 20th Anniversary of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape becoming a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a region which was at the forefront of the world's copper and tin mining industry during the 18th and 19th centuries ⛏️.

On Saturday 22nd August, a 20min film, 'From Granite to Galaxies' in Tavistock Town Hall. This is a unique, immersive film experience within a 360° Dome, that will take the viewer on an incredible journey, looking at everything from the geology of Cornwall's granite, the Industrial Revolution and our rich Mining heritage, to the present day, looking at what constitutes sustainable future.

With multiple showings during the day in Tavistock Town Hall, why not consider popping into Tavistock Museum as well, where you can find out more and see numerous exhibits linked to our rich mining heritage past, watch our subtitled videos on Cornish Mining and Tavistock Canal, or maybe purchase a souvenir mining poster.

You can also see our other exhibitions on The Tavistock Railways, Tavistock Abbey, Markets,Trades and Occupations, and our fabulous new 2026 Exhibition, 'A Stitch in Time'.

Are you thinking about visiting the museum, but not sure where to go? 👀

That's okay because we've got you covered...!

1. Begin your journey from Bedford Square close to Tavistock's Town Hall! 🏦

2. Make your way through the archway and maybe have a little peak at what books we have outside for a small donation 📖

3. Upon reaching the opposite side of the archway, turn left until you see our sign, and our lovely little garden. 😁

4. Walk up the short garden path!🌿

5. Yay! You've made it to the museum and get to enjoy a warm and friendly greeting from one (or two!) of our wonderful volunteers! 🥳

We're open from 11am - 3pm, Tuesday to Saturday ❤️
