Looking for something to do inside this wet Bank Holiday weekend? Come and bring the family to the Ancient House Museum. We are open between midday and 4pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Entry is free. Today Saturday come and meet the Detectorist and look at our large collection of important items found in Clare by detectorists. We have a permanent display about Clare’s important place in Medieval history and a new display of fascinating things found in Clare. Come and discover amongst many other treasures, a 14th century Papal Bull found under Clare’s wonderful bookshop - and no it doesn’t have hooves and snort! We are at 26 High St. Clare CO10 8NP and entry is free!

This is an RAF ‘Sweetheart’ brooch found by a detectorist in Clare. These brooches were given by RAF personnel to their sweethearts during the Second World War. They were cherished items - what a beautiful thing to find! If you are interested in metal detecting and would like to meet a detectorist, come to the Ancient House Museum today Saturday 29th August between midday and 4pm and talk to our resident detectorist who also runs the Clare Detectorist Club. The Club welcomes adults and children and provides metal detectors for use on Club days out. Entry is free and we are at 26 High St Clare CO10 8NP.

If you thought mudlarking was larking about in mud you would only be half right. Mudlarkers search the banks of rivers and riverbeds for objects lost and buried in the river mud. Come to the Ancient House Museum today between midday and 4pm and meet an experienced mudlarker who will explain her experience and show you her amazing finds. Come and meet a real live archaeologist at the Ancient House Museum today Saturday 15th August and find out what digging up the past is really like. Our archaeologist will be at the Museum from midday until 4pm to answer your questions, show you some finds and explain what archaeology is about.

Ask her about fossils and dinosaurs, about how fossils were created and about digging them up. Palaeontologists recreate the ancient world from the evidence of fossils. How cool is that? The Clare Ancient House Museum is shut tomorrow for a private event. So come today instead! We are open from midday until 4pm at 26 High St. Clare CO10 8NY. Entry is free and we are showing our exhibition ‘Unearthed’, a display of finds unearthed in Clare. Next week, we start our Meet the Expert days when you can visit the museum and meet a different expert on each day. See our posters in Market Square and Visit Clare for details.
